Dear Browning Families-

We had an excellent full week of school with picture day and our first fire drill. Thank you to all those families who attended our first PTA meeting over Zoom on Monday. We appreciate your time and support! This coming week, we will be hosting our Annual Parent Only Title One Event on Tuesday, September 30th. Please know that we will have an in-person meeting at 5:30pm-6pm in the gymnasium, followed by another meeting virtually on TEAMS from 6:30-7pm. POWERSCHOOL ANNUAL FORMS DUE:

• Please be sure to log in to your PowerSchool App or Account and make sure you have all the annual forms updated.
• Please also be sure you are receiving communications from the SMORE. If you are not, please feel free to contact Ms. Shelley in the office to help guide you through checking the appropriate box to receive the communications.

• Please be sure to check your child's progress report grades (available in the POWERSCHOOL) at the end of the day today.

Congratulations to Ms. Andrews' first grade classroom for winning a special grant award from Pet Supplies Plus!! Students in first grade will have a chance to observe a living guinea pig while studying their Michigan state standards on Animals and Habitats in Science! Students were very excited to hear the news from their teacher today. Ms. Andrews will be taking care of this animal and allow her students study the animal in action while in her care. CONGRATULATIONS MS. ANDREWS!

An important parent-school activity that occurs each fall is our Parent-Teacher Conference. This is your opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss progress this year and shared expectations.

Please note: October 2 is a half day for all secondary students (junior high and high school), and October 15 is a half day for all elementary students to accommodate conferences.

Here is the upcoming schedule for our conferences:

• October 14 – Evening Conferences (5:00-8:00 p.m.)

• October 15 – Afternoon or evening conferences 1-4pm, 5-8pm (this will be a half day for our students)

More information on how to sign up for conferences will be sent shortly.

A Browning Bear is RESPECTFUL! A Browning Bear is KIND!

Hello, Browning families! In ISM, we are wrapping up our third week of mastering RESPECT, which means seeing value in everyone and treating them with care. We have identified what respect feels like, looks like, and sounds like.

As a class, we have agreed that we give our respect freely instead of having others earn our respect. We agreed that we should not tolerate others disrespecting us, and that we can instead be kind to them then consider if that is someone we want to give more of our time to. We have discussed that we can disagree with others, but in doing so we still treat them with kindness. A Browning Bear knows that our words have power, and a Browning Bear uses their powers for good!

Ways that our students are practicing respect: by being strong listeners, giving others our full attention, and truly hearing and thinking about what the other person is saying instead of just thinking of our own replies. We have considered what respectful friendship looks like and when is the time to find different friends to share our time with. We have practiced respectful communication, finding new words to help describe to others how we are feeling, and how to regulate our own strong emotions so that we can positively communicate with others when we feel offended or hurt. We have practiced respect by identifying the good in others and we learned that uplifting words have the power to change someone’s life. A Browning Bear knows that leaders focus on the good.

Ask your student about their challenge this week: to be a respectful listener, to practice good communication, and to focus on the good.

We are stronger together and TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE THE WORLD A BRIGHTER PLACE!
