Week of March 3, 2025

Spring has sprung at MMS! Spring break is only 2 weeks away! We have STAAR Interim Testing this week on Tuesday & Thursday. Make sure you are getting plenty of rest and try your best while taking the interims. We will be using this data to help prepare you in revisiting or spiraling back in to your bell work in your classes items that were missed on the interim tests. Good luck this week on testing!

Students, Quick reminders! Hats are not allowed. Ear pods & phones are not allowed when you are on campus. No one likes to be recorded without their knowledge with a chromebook or a phone. If you record someone or something happen in class or on campus, consequences will happen, as this is a violation of the student code of conduct.

Theatre arts classes are currently running an online fundraiser. We're hoping to raise funds for costumes, props, theatrical supplies, and scripts. Theatre students have their own individual fundraiser links, or donations can be made at the McCarroll Eagle Theatre Fundraiser link. Fundraiser ends on March 21st.

Ms. Diaczenko, our Fabulous Art teacher is looking for broken toys for a sculpture project coming up in her arts classes. Please send broken toys with your student and drop them off in her class or the front office.

Are you cleaning out your Crafty? Send your goods to the art room!

Cheer paperwork due by March 10

Cheer clinics on the 10-13 of March Tryouts on the 14th.

Current 7th graders that are interested in taking Digital Media (Yearbook) class for the 25-26 school year, need to pick up an application from the counseling center. Applications are due back to the counselors by Friday, 3/7.

All Course Request forms should be turned in. If you have not turned in your 25 - 26 Course Request form, please do so as soon as possible. If you need a replacement copy, please pick one up from the counseling center.

~FOR INCOMING 7TH GRADERS ONLY~

The Health Department will be offering FREE VACCINES ON MARCH 28th for all students who are entering their 7th grade year. Texas state law requires TDAP and Meningitis, prior to starting the 7th grade year. The Health Department will be administering vaccines during school hours for the convenience of parents at no charge, regardless of insurance. With proper consent forms, parents do NOT need to be present for the vaccines. Consent forms must be turned in prior to March 14. Click the link for the consent form: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14FGs4xADxSWWTjjtorCeVtFGsP7xuNfD/view?usp=sharing

If you choose to decline vaccines, please remember to order the declination early as they can take up to 2 months to arrive in the mail. Once you receive the declination, the original copy must be notarized and turned into the school nurse prior to the first day of your child's 7th grade year. Please follow the link for the vaccine declination form: https://co-request.dshs.texas.gov/

If your child has already received their vaccines or plans to get them at their physician, please send an updated copy of their vaccine record to the school. We like to get an early start so all students are able to attend their first day of 7th grade.

You may email the vaccine records, vaccine consent forms or any questions to ashley.cowie@decaturisd.us or call (940) 393-7302.

Restrooms - Students we need your help to keep our student restrooms usable. We are having many toilets with paper towels, note cards and anything else you can imagine, being flushed and stopping up the toilets and flooding the restrooms. Go into the restrooms and do your business and go back to class. Parents, please remind your child that restrooms are not a place to play around and destroy.

MMS first SOCCER season is quickly approaching! Here are the details:

Tryouts April 1 to April 4. Practice will be held in the open field next to STEM from 4:00pm - 5:30pm

For athletes who make the team, there will be a parent meeting on April 7th in the MPB at 5:30.

To be able to try out for soccer, you must have passed all of your classes for the 4th six weeks. If you did not pass all of your classes, you must be passing at the 3 week's progress mark to be able to try out. If you fail the 5th six weeks, you will not be eligible to play until the 3 week's progress mark, if you are passing all your classes.

7th & 8th grade Students that want to try out for soccer, please fill in the following form:

https://forms.gle/jvNH7vUeAvXRQ8c29

We have had several glass drinking bottles break this week in hallways and classrooms. It is a safety hazard. If you are going to bring a drink to school, it must be metal or plastic.

Students should not touch or modify another student's chrome book. This includes resetting and power washing. Causing an issue with another student's chrome book wastes time for that student and can possibly prevent the student from working on his/her chrome book and also goes against our Acceptable Use Policy.

Secondary Grading Guidelines

Late Work (Secondary) Regarding late work for all courses, the teacher will utilize the following to determine the final grade of the student’s assignment.

On Level Courses- Secondary students will be subject to the following penalties:

1 day late – 10 point grade reduction

2 days late – 20 point grade reduction

3 days late – 30 point grade reduction

4 or more days late – 0

HonorsAdvanced Courses - Secondary students will be subject to the following penalties:

1-3 days late - maximum grade of a 70

4 or more days late - 0

The teacher reserves the right and may extend the late deadline policy for an individual student or class should he/she feel extenuating circumstances exist.

Reward Party

5th six weeks

5th week of the 5th six weeks is March 28

Reward Party - April 4

Reward Party information:

The requirements are:

1.No Zeros in any class - this means all work had to be turned in by the 5th Friday of the six weeks.

2. No discipline of ISS or DAEP would be allowed to go - this means if your child got a detention they could still earn the reward party

3. No more than 2 unexcused absences - Parents/Guardians need to inform school every time a child is absent. Communication is key. If your child has been absent due to illness, please let our office ladies know.

4. Students could still fail and go to the party - This allows all students who are on different levels of learning and still progressing to attend. This also allows administration to find students who are struggling and help support students through our MTSS process.

ALL LATE WORK WILL BE DUE BY THE 5th FRIDAY OF THE SIX WEEKS. With our district policy to allow 4 days to turn in late work and allow time for reteaching & retesting, students would not have the time to allow for these policies, if new assignments were assigned during the final week of a six weeks. This also helps with UIL eligibility timelines. Any new assignments that are assigned in the final week of the six weeks will be placed on the following six weeks grade book.
