Message From the Principal
Dear Marauders Families,
Last week was filled with tradition, school spirit, and memorable moments. Homecoming Week 2025 was a tremendous success. This was thanks to thoughtful planning and the enthusiastic participation of our students and staff. Spirit Days were especially popular. Jersey Day and Mitchell in Hawaii Day brought out incredible energy; I even joined in! Although we postponed the bonfire due to the weather, the week still ended on a high note. Some highlights included a spirited pep assembly featuring an outstanding performance by the Dance and Cheer Team. We extended a warm welcome to the Class of 1985, who were honored at both the pep assembly and the Varsity football game. Our Varsity Soccer team's victory over Lamar High School added to the festivities. The joyful Homecoming Dance on Saturday night truly capped off the week. Special thanks go to Ms. Kimani, our Student Council Sponsor; Mr. Short, our Athletics and Activities Director; and the entire Student Council for their collaboration and leadership in making Homecoming Week unforgettable.
In tandem with all the fun and celebration, Mitchell High School’s 2025–26 Pathway Plan and Unified School Improvement Plan (USIP) were presented to the D11 Board of Education on Wednesday, September 17. Our representative from the Colorado Department of Education presented on our behalf. They highlighted our progress on the School Performance Frameworks (SPF) and our sharpened focus on delivering high-quality, state-standards-aligned instruction in every classroom, every day.
Looking ahead, we continue to strive for excellence by aligning action with our USIP strategies. Students and teachers will participate in the first 5Essentials Interim Survey. The data we collect will provide valuable insights into the key indicators of high-functioning schools. Our Instructional Leadership Team will also conduct Learning Walks. These promote distributed leadership and strengthen instructional practices through teacher-led reflection and collaboration. On Monday, September 22, we are thrilled to honor our sophomore, junior, and senior students who demonstrate academic excellence at the ACCEPT Scholar Ceremony. We expect our students to be on track for graduation and achieve the goal of walking across the graduation stage on time or early. Students have received invitations, and we warmly encourage parents and guardians to join us for this special celebration.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s keep the momentum going and celebrate every WIN, big and small!

Attendance & Discipline Update
Building a Stronger School Community: MTSS, Attendance, Safety, and Our ACCEPT Values
At Mitchell High School, we are committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and high-achieving environment for every student. This year, we are amplifying our efforts around MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports), reinforcing the importance of daily attendance, strengthening our school safety protocols, and celebrating our ACCEPT core values through our PBIS framework.
MTSS: Supporting Every Student, Every Day
MTSS is a proactive, data-driven approach that ensures all students receive the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support they need to thrive. Whether a student needs enrichment, targeted instruction, or intensive intervention, MTSS helps us meet them where they are and guide them forward.
Monitoring for Success
Our Success Teams are a key part of our MTSS framework. Our Framework provides targeted support for students who may need additional help with attendance, behavior, or academics. Through regular check-ins, goal-setting, and collaboration with families, this framework helps students stay on track and build the skills they need to succeed.
Attendance Matters
Consistent attendance is essential for academic success and personal growth. When students are present, they are more engaged, build stronger relationships, and stay connected to their learning. We ask families to prioritize school attendance and reach out if challenges arise. Together, we can ensure every student has the opportunity to learn and grow every day.
Safety First
Creating a safe and welcoming school environment is a top priority. Our team of dedicated security staff, school leaders, and support personnel work together to ensure that Mitchell High School remains a secure place for learning. We encourage students to speak up if they see or hear something concerning, and we thank our families for partnering with us to promote safety and respect throughout our campus.
Living Our ACCEPT Values
Our PBIS framework is grounded in the ACCEPT core values:
- Achievement – Striving for academic and personal excellence.
- Courage – Facing challenges with confidence and integrity.
- Caring – Showing kindness and empathy to others.
- Excellence – Holding ourselves to high standards in all we do.
- Perseverance – Staying committed, even when things get tough.
- Teamwork – Working together to build a stronger school community.
These values are more than words—they are the foundation of our school culture. Through PBIS, we recognize and reward students who embody ACCEPT in their daily actions, helping to create a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for all.
Mitchell School Accountability Committee (SAC)
The School Advisory Council (SAC) comprises a dedicated team committed to driving student success and ongoing school improvement. Reverend Michael Bibbs and Alyssa Webb serve as co-chairs for the 2025-2026 school year, bringing strong collaborative leadership that will further strengthen the SAC’s mission. Their guidance is expected to boost parental engagement and foster greater community involvement.
The next SAC meeting will be held at the D11 Tesla Professional Development Center on Thursday, October 9, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This meeting will precede the District Accountability Committee (DAC), meet and greet opportunity for candidates running for the D11 School Board this fall. For your convenience, a virtual attendance option is also available via the provided link.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who has attended and contributed to the Mitchell High School SAC. Your involvement is vital to our shared success.
