Welcome Back! Welcome Back!

What a great start to the school year! It has been wonderful having our students and staff back in the building and seeing the energy that comes with the beginning of a new year.

The first few weeks have been busy as students settle into routines, reconnect with friends and staff, and get back into the rhythm of school. We appreciate the support of our families in helping make the start of the year a successful one.

We have a lot to look forward to this year at Foley Intermediate School. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our students and staff. We are excited for another great year at FIS!

Homecoming Week was a great week at FIS! Students and staff had a lot of fun showing their Falcon Pride and participating in our dress-up days:

Monday – Class Color Day
4th Grade – White | 5th Grade – Grey | 6th Grade – Blue | 7th Grade – Pink | 8th Grade – Black

Tuesday – Pajama Day
Wednesday – Western Day
Thursday – Tropical Day
Friday – School Spirit Day

On Thursday, we brought our students together for the FIS Homecoming Pep Fest to celebrate and show our Falcon Pride. Our 6th–8th grade students also enjoyed the FIS Homecoming Dance Thursday evening.

We’ll wrap up a great Homecoming Week with School Spirit Day and the Falcon football game Friday night. We hope to see many of our FIS families there cheering on the Falcons!

STOPit: Annoymous Reporting System STOPit: Annoymous Reporting System

FIS uses STOPit as another way for students and families to share concerns about safety, bullying, harassment, or other situations that may need attention. Reports can be made anonymously through the STOPit app or online reporting system, giving students and families an easy way to communicate a concern directly to the school.

Students and families can also report concerns by talking with a teacher, counselor, administrator, or another trusted adult at school. We encourage students to speak with an adult whenever possible, but STOPit provides another option when someone may not feel comfortable doing so.

If you see something, say something. Working together helps us keep FIS a safe and supportive place for everyone.

Bus Policy Bus Policy

A quick reminder that riding the school bus is a privilege, and students are expected to follow school expectations while riding to and from school. Students should remain seated, use appropriate language and behavior, keep the bus clean, and follow the directions of the bus driver.

When bus behavior concerns occur, school administration will follow up with the student and family. Repeated or serious concerns may result in consequences, including the loss of bus-riding privileges. We appreciate families reviewing bus expectations with their students and helping us keep our buses safe for everyone.

Families can review the complete Foley Public Schools Student Transportation Safety Policy (Policy 709) for additional information.

Foley Public Schools uses the I Love U Guys Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to provide students and staff with clear, consistent actions during an emergency or safety situation. The protocol uses five actions—Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter—so students and staff know what to do based on the situation.

Throughout the year, students and staff practice these procedures so they are familiar with them if they are ever needed. Our goal is to prepare, not scare, and to make sure everyone at FIS knows how to respond calmly and safely during an emergency.

Please see the family handout below for more information about the Standard Response Protocol and what each action means.

7th and 8th Grade Schedule 7th and 8th Grade Schedule

Our 7th and 8th grade students are off to a great start with their new schedule! This year’s schedule provides students with more opportunities to explore electives, participate in additional PE, and continue in year-long music courses. Students and staff have done a great job adjusting to the changes and settling into their new routines. We’re excited about the additional opportunities this schedule provides our students throughout the year.

This year, FIS transitioned from 7th and 8th grade individually having assigned Chromebooks to classroom Chromebook carts. Overall, the transition has gone well, and students have access to a device in their classrooms when technology is needed for learning. We are continuing to fine-tune the process as we move through the first few weeks of school including our check-out procedure for homework. We are also developing a regular cleaning protocol for shared Chromebooks to help keep devices clean and ready for student use.

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is an important part of how we build a positive school culture at FIS. Our SOAR expectations—Support, Offer Kindness, Achievement, and Respect—provide students with a clear understanding of what it means to be a Falcon throughout the school day. Staff teach, model, recognize, and reinforce these expectations in classrooms and common areas across the building.

We are also proud to be recognized as a PBIS Exemplar School, which reflects the commitment of our students and staff to creating a positive, supportive environment where all students can be successful. We are also an Exemplar District, which is one of only nine in Minnesota! At FIS, we SOAR!

The safety of our students is our highest priority during afternoon dismissal. To help our buses load and parent pick-up run as smoothly as possible, we ask families to follow our established dismissal procedures each day.

If your child's transportation plans need to change, please contact the school office before 2:00 p.m. whenever possible. This gives our staff time to communicate changes to students and teachers before dismissal begins.

Families picking up students should remain in the designated parent pick-up line and follow staff directions throughout the process. For the safety of all students, please do not park and walk across traffic areas or ask students to cross the parking lot outside of designated crossing locations. Student will wait by the "star" on the diagram and cross to their parent or guardian.

The first few days of school are typically our busiest, so we appreciate your patience as everyone learns the routine. By working together and following the established procedures, we can ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient dismissal for all students.
