NES Parent Newsletter 8/25/25
August 25. 2025

Dear NES Families,
We are excited to share that we have wrapped up a successful second week of school! Our students are settling into routines, and it has been wonderful to see their energy and enthusiasm for learning.
ELA testing is now complete (with the exception of make-up groups), and we are preparing for math testing next week. Thank you for helping your child come to school rested and ready—it makes a big difference.
Many families have asked about our new staff shirts. We are looking into options for students to purchase similar shirts as well, and will share more information soon.
You may also notice a change this year: due to budget adjustments, Accelerated Reader (AR) was not renewed. However, our commitment to building strong readers has not changed. We are creating a new quiz system that will better align with our benchmarks, and we will continue schoolwide reading initiatives to keep students motivated and growing as readers. If we are able to purchase AR later in the year, we will, but we want to assure you we have not decreased our expectation for our readers.
We also want to thank you for working diligently to get your children to school on time. More families are arriving before 8:10, and this allows students to be in class and ready to learn right away. Every minute counts, and your support helps our day start smoothly.
Please mark your calendars: Picture Day is August 28th. As a reminder, students are encouraged to wear AVID or their favorite college shirts on Wednesdays, and school shirts or school colors on Fridays to show their Tiger pride!
Over the past two weeks, students have also practiced both fire and lockdown drills, and they are learning the routines that help keep our school safe. We are proud of how quickly they are adjusting and look forward to watching their growth throughout this year.
Thank you, families, for your continued partnership and support. It has been a terrific start to the year, and we are excited for all that is ahead!
With gratitude and positivity,
Mrs. Jessica Lowe, Principal
Mrs. Heather Briney, Assistant Principal
