Note From the Principals Office
What a busy and exciting few weeks we’ve had at HMMS! Our students were inspired by Ronan Donovan, a professional photographer and field biologist, who shared his experiences photographing wolves and studying wildlife. We enjoyed incredible performances and workshops from The Barn Arts and Karim Nagi,. Team Polaris showcased their creativity during an amazing evening of full-team and individual project presentations related to the history of presidential elections for families. Our variety show was a great success, with many students sharing their incredible talents. Student council members had an exiting trip to the Kennedy Institute in Boston, while our Band and Chorus students proudly represented HMMS at districts . Spirit Week brought out Hurricane pride as students and staff enthusiastically participated in fun and creative themes see pictures below for a sneak peek. This shorter week keeps the excitement going with Hurricane Havoc and the final days of our extended Spirit Week. Thank you for celebrating these moments with us and supporting the many successes of our HMMS students!

Snack Donations
HMMS is seeking donations of healthy snacks to support our students. Examples of snacks that would be greatly appreciated include granola bars, pretzels, crackers, and similar items. If you are able to help with this request, I know our students would appreciate it. Thank you for considering contributing to this effort to keep our students energized and focused throughout the day! Snacks can be brought to the font office and Mrs. Wagar will assist.
Resources for Families
Note from the Nurses Office:
Pneumonia cases (especially those caused by the mycoplasma bacteria; “walking pneumonia”) have increased across the country and the state of Vermont. In our school district, we have also noticed a rise in the number of cases being reported. Pneumonia is a respiratory infection caused by bacteria. The onset of symptoms is typically gradual and can include fever, cough, and a sore throat. The cough is usually a dry cough without phlegm and tends to slowly increase over a period of two to three weeks until it becomes almost constant. The bacteria are spread by inhaling respiratory droplets that are produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
As with other respiratory infections, some strategies to prevent the pneumonia bacteria from spreading include staying home when a person is feeling really ill or coughing persistently, increased handwashing, and covering coughs and sneezes. Any person experiencing symptoms should follow the school’s illness protocol and return criteria; contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns about this.
If your child becomes ill with a worsening or persistent cough, fever, and/or sore throat, please call your medical provider for guidance as many times antibiotics are needed to help shorten the illness and move toward recovery.
