Lincoln's Weekly Bulletin
8/28/26
Dear Lincoln Families,
I hope everyone is staying cool in this heat! We have had another great week at Lincoln, and I continue to enjoy seeing our Panthers settle into the school year. I visit classrooms every day, and I am seeing students engaged in learning, asking great questions, and adjusting to classroom routines and expectations.
As we continue to focus on our 4 Ps—Presence, Partnership, Purpose, and Pathway—I encourage you to stay connected to your Panther’s school day. Ask them to show you their planner, ask what they learned today, or even ask who they had lunch with. These small conversations can tell you a lot about how they are doing and help us continue building that important partnership between home and school. And, of course, if you have questions about a class, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
I also want families to know that I am always happy to have those quick conversations during drop-off or pick-up. If you need a little more time, please stop by the office or schedule an appointment with me. I value the opportunity to connect with our families and hear how things are going.
A few families have also shared concerns about the weight of student backpacks. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our departments met this week to discuss ways we can help lighten the load for students. Some suggestions include bringing only the essential materials needed each day, storing PE shoes and clothing in lockers, and regularly cleaning out backpacks. Students can also consider bringing a partially filled water bottle and refilling it at one of the drinking fountains around campus or in classrooms. And don’t forget, we have some amazing food available on campus, so taking advantage of school breakfast and lunch is another way to carry a little less each day! Teachers will also be talking with students about these strategies.
Finally, we are looking forward to Back to School Night! It will be a great opportunity for you to visit campus, meet your Panther’s teachers, learn more about their classes, and see what they have been working on.
Thank you for your continued Presence and Partnership as we work together with Purpose to create a positive Pathway for every Panther.
Have a wonderful weekend, stay cool, and as always—Go Panthers!
Respectfully,
Dr. Myeshia Whigham

Cell Phone Policy - Off and Away All Day
Together with schools throughout Oceanside Unified School District, we continue our cell phone policy, "During the Day, Off and Away," for the 2025-2026 school year (Board Policy 5131.8). Our goal is to create a safe and focused learning environment for all students by minimizing distractions and promoting their mental well-being.
Key Points:
Cell Phone Usage: Students must turn off (ringer/tone/sounds off) and store their phones in their backpacks upon entering campus. Phones should stay off until they leave.
Exceptions: Students with specific accommodations (IEPs, 504 plans, or medical conditions) may have phone access as specified in the policy.
Communication: Office has landlines for students to contact parents when necessary and may ask permission to call you.
Academic Benefits: Reducing phone usage helps students stay focused and engaged in class.
Safety and Security: This policy helps prevent cyberbullying, ensures students focus during emergencies, and reduces the risk of theft or loss.
Support and disciplinary measures are in place for policy violations to help students adjust.
Thank you for your support as we work together to enhance our students' learning experience and well-being.
