Principal Update 9/23/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
Thank you to our families for your strong participation in our Open Houses last week. We understand that the change this year may have been difficult to maneuver and we hope that the information you received made it worth your time. As we look ahead to next year and consider how we can best support you in helping your children, I am asking for families to complete this quick survey for us. There are only three quick multiple choice questions with an optional comment box. One change that I am already thinking about is how to make the principal information session more grade level specific so that families who attend do not hear the same presentation multiple times. I appreciate any additional feedback you may have that might help us as we think ahead to next year.
Last week we held our first family meetings of the year. Families are small groups of 8-10 students representing every grade level with a staff member leader. We meet in our school families monthly to engage in social learning and relationship building. Having a school family outside of the classroom allows our students and educators to get to know more than just the people in their rooms. It promotes leadership and responsibility in our older students and supports a strong school culture. Families remain together throughout their time at Memorial. Each year we graduate our 4th grade family members and welcome new kindergarten "little siblings" to our groups. My favorite moments are at the start of family meetings when our older students go to pick up their younger family members around the building. There is always an excited buzz and lots of hand-holding and smiles as connections happen between students. This past week we read The Name Jar by Yangsook Choi and talked about the importance of learning others' names and how your name is unique and special and has meaning. In my family, we shared where our names come from (if we knew) and talked about any nicknames we had that we prefer. Family meeting time always goes too fast and I look forward to continuing the conversation next month.
I hope everyone has a terrific week ahead!
Warmly,
Wendy
School Hours
Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.
Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.
Arrival And Dismissal Procedures
Please click here for information about parent drop off and pick up. We have a complicated driveway and want to make sure our students are safe. We ask that you read through the instructions carefully if it is your first time dropping off or picking up from school.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is childhood cancer awareness month and the Nipmuc student body is taking part in a month-long challenge to fill as many boxes as they can with non-perishable items to donate to the food pantry at Why Me and Sherry's House in Worcester, MA.
Why Me and Sherry's House is a nonprofit that helps families coping with childhood cancer. At this time, Sherry's House is hosting 4 families that are undergoing treatment for pediatric cancer. Help us by donating a non-perishable item! You or your Nipmuc student can bring in the item through the month of September in recognition of childhood cancer awareness month. Please leave all items in the front lobby.
Thank you in advance for your support! If you have any questions please reach out to Ms. Annunziata at jannunziata@mursd.org.
