Weekly Newsletter for October , 2022
Congratulations to Grayson Pate, a sophomore music performance (piano) major and mathematic minor from Mayfield, KY, who was recently chosen the winner of the Kentucky Music Teachers Association Bluegrass Young Artist Piano Competition, held at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Grayson competed with other college-age pianists from across the state, with an impressive program that included works by Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Moszkowski. Grayson was supported in part by a generous grant from the Gary and Barbara Morgan Keyboard Studies Fund for Excellence. Well done, Grayson!
Dr. Marc Polizzi, Associate Professor of Political Science, and co-authors, Dr. Moisés Arce and Dr. Michael S. Hendricks, have published The Roots of Engagement: Understanding Opposition and Support for Resource Extraction with Oxford University Press.
The Roots of Engagement examines the individual-level factors that shape a person's opinions over resource extraction. It looks at what makes some individuals accept extractive activities close to their homes, while other individuals strongly reject them. Moreover, it asks why some individuals focus on the potential benefits of employment and local development, while other individuals focus on the defense of livelihoods and the ecological risks associated with mining.
Read more about the publication on the CHFA blog, and congratulations, Dr. Polizzi!
Congratulations to Mirielle Erpelding, who has been named Murray State's Outstanding Senior for fall 2022. Students recognized with this honor are known for their academic excellence and professionalism.
