Promoting Your Role
Ways to Promote Your Role as a School Social Worker
Here are practical, school-friendly ideas school social workers can use to increase visibility and understanding of their role:
-
Share a brief “What School Social Workers Do” spotlight during morning announcements or in the campus newsletter
-
Create a one-slide data snapshot (number of students served, groups facilitated, families supported, attendance or behavior impact) and share it with administrators
-
Partner with counselors or administrators to host a lunch-and-learn for staff explaining how and when to refer to social work services
-
Post a visual display outside your office or in a common area highlighting services, community partnerships, and student support.
-
Collaborate with students or families to share anonymous impact stories (when appropriate and ethical)
