Wiggin Street Parent Update
December 6, 2024
Better Together
Dear families,
We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! December brings all of the excitement of the holidays with fun activities including the Holiday Shop, Kindergarten Gingerbread Man Play, 1st and 2nd Grade Holidays around the World Feast, Grades 3-5 Winter Program, Jólabókaflóð - the Christmas book flood, and holiday parties. Oh my! Please read below to learn more about these events.
I have included a link to the MVCSD Website where you can find more information about The Mount Vernon City Schools Master Facility Advisory Committee's Master Plan. Please understand that the committee has extended the timeline for its final recommendations from January to May 2025 to ensure thoroughness and community input.
Lastly, we appreciate all the efforts to make sure students are dressed appropriately for the weather. The snow day yesterday came as a surprise to us all, but hopefully the kids enjoyed their day off. You should have received information about the delay and then the closing. If you are not receiving text messages from Mount Vernon City Schools, it's possible that text messaging was opted-out at some point, or text messaging was never activated for your account. Please let us know if you are having any difficulties.
Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff
Kindergarten Thanksgiving Reading Fun
Holiday Shop and FOW
The Holiday Shop is set for Friday, Dec 13th! Parents can join their kids for shopping from 8:30-9:00am, and students will be shopping with their class in groups from 9:00-11:50. All students will be bringing home an envelope on December 9th with a list attached for students to indicate who they will be shopping for. Keep in mind when sending money for shopping, the max price of an individual item at the Holiday Shop is $5. The envelope can be returned to school with cash prior to the 13th. This is a CASH only event.
Any students that will not be shopping will still have the opportunity to make an ornament. These are provided by Friends of Wiggin Street. These will come home immediately in a gift bag and name label. Happy Shopping!
Next FOW meeting is Dec. 7th @ 5:00 pm in the school library.

Lost and Found
Winter Weather
Please remember that students will go outside on days where the temperature with wind chill accounted for is 20°f and above. Be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. Coats, hats, and gloves are necessary at this time of the year. Boots are required for playing in the snow. If you need assistance with winter outerwear for your child, please contact our school, and we will happily find warm clothes for them.
Lost and Found- Being Donated after December 20th over the break
Please remind your student to get their sweatshirts and jackets from lost and found. You can also submit this form to let us know what you are looking for, and we will do our best to get it to your child.
Remember that it is helpful to label all jackets, lunchboxes, bookbags. Donations will be made over winter break, so please remind your child to check out the Lost and Found.
