Important Information about ID Badges

Dear McMillen Families,

We are hopeful that you enjoyed summer break and the time spent with your loved ones! We are excited to have our students back on campus and have had a great first week!

As we begin the Fall semester, we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with you to provide your child with an excellent education in a safe learning environment that will successfully prepare them for their future. As we work towards preparing students for college and the workforce, the expectations we have at McMillen will help them to be successful now and in future settings. We are asking for your assistance with encouraging your child to adhere of the following expectations so that they are ready for success each day:

  • Arrive to school on time

  • Arrive to class on time

  • Be prepared to positively engage and learn about the lesson for the day in each class

  • Use kind and respectful communication with one another

  • Adhere to the Plano ISD Student Code of Conduct

  • Wear the appropriate attire

  • Wear their ID badge visibly at all times

These fundamental expectations are essential to providing a safe learning environment and we will be re-establishing these with our students this week.

Safety is always a top priority and students must wear their ID badges at all times. This is expected from everyone at McMillen, including staff members.

August 3 - opportunity for students to take yearbook/ID photo & receive ID badge

August 9 - students will be escorted to the small gym to take photo & receive ID badge

August 10 - students will be escorted to the small gym to take photo & receive ID badge

By Friday, August 11, ALL students should have received their 2023-2024 student ID badge.

Our staff will monitor the entry points to ensure students are wearing their ID badge and have reason to access the building.

It is important that you understand that there is a $5.00 fee for each replacement badge provided to students. We will provide one week of free temporary badges for students who are not in compliance on campus, however, beginning August 21, all students will be charged for every replacement badge they are provided. Please know that if a student continues to rely on replacement badges being printed and provided, the cost will accumulate and holds will be placed on the student’s account.

Please take a moment to read and understand the timeline of implementation:

08/14/23 to 08/18/23

Between 8:15am - 9:00am, students will be monitored and required to produce an ID badge upon entry to the building

  • Students who are wearing a McMillen HS ID badge visibly will be allowed to enter the building

  • Students who are not wearing a McMillen HS ID badge visibly will be required to check-in with a faculty member

    • Faculty member will collect the student information, issue a Temporary ID sticker, and send them to class

Students who arrive after 9:00am will follow the same process through the front office.

Teachers will require that students are wearing their student ID when entering the classroom(s) throughout the day.

Guest Speakers Needed for AVID

Every year in AVID one of our most impacting components of the program is having guest speakers share about their profession. McMillen AVID students are always thinking about college majors, and they love exposure to as many as possible. That's where guest speakers help the most. Whether you own a business, are in the medical profession, the world of transportation, hospitality, engineering, law, human relations, trade professions…we would love to schedule you to speak to our students. They are always interested and have an abundance of questions. If you would be willing to come share your profession with us, or if you know someone who would like to come be a guest speaker in our AVID classes, please contact Mike Abney, our AVID Coordinator, at michael.abney@pisd.edu. Please consider sharing what you do with our students! We're looking forward to hearing from you.
