iLead in ECISD
iLead Kids (grades K-5) is made up of values-based content designed by Dr. John C. Maxwell to allow the next generation of leaders to develop themselves, their values and their leadership skills in a peer-to-peer setting.
The format used by iLead Kids allows elementary students the opportunity to lead as they take turns facilitating groups. Each value lesson contains the benefits of the value, short teachings on the value, the opportunity for reflection, student self-evaluation, and the opportunity for students to identify and write out an action step that will allow them to improve their practice of the value.
Values-based roundtables called Transformation Tables, have proven to be incredibly effective in the Maxwell Leadership Foundation's transformation efforts in countries and communities. John Maxwell recognized that if we could help students learn and apply these same concepts, we would support students to create meaningful and sustainable success.
ILEAD KIDS HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS ACCOMPLISH FIVE GOALS:
1. Identify with positive character and leadership values
2. Take ownership of their choices
3. Practice leadership values and develop those skills
4. Evaluate themselves with their applied knowledge
5. Take turns guiding small group discussions
The iLead curriculum (grades 6-12) is made up of values-based roundtables designed by Dr. John C. Maxwell to allow the next generation of leaders to develop themselves, their values and their leadership skills.
The format allows students to get experience leading as they take turns facilitating the roundtables. Each lesson contains a short teaching on a value or leadership characteristic, asks students to rate how well they practice this characteristic, and asks them to commit to one action step for the week that will allow them to improve their score in that area.
Values-based roundtables have proven to be incredibly effective in the Maxwell Leadership Foundation's country transformation efforts. John Maxwell recognized that if we could help students learn and apply these same concepts, we would be able to provide a foundation that could set them, and their country, up for meaningful and sustainable success. iLead was birthed out of this belief.

SEL Challenges for the Month
Classroom SEL Challenges
1. Gratitude Circle Challenge
At the start or end of each day, spend a few minutes in a gratitude circle. Invite each student to share one thing they are grateful for. This practice helps students focus on positive aspects of their day and fosters a sense of community in the classroom.
2. Mindful Moments Challenge
Incorporate a daily 2-minute mindfulness activity into your classroom routine. Guide students to close their eyes, focus on their breathing, and simply be present in the moment. This practice can help students calm their minds, especially during transitions or after recess.
3. Affirmation Wall Challenge
Create an "Affirmation Wall" in your classroom where students can write positive affirmations or encouraging words on sticky notes and post them for everyone to see. Encourage students to add to the wall daily and read affirmations from others, promoting a supportive and uplifting classroom environment.
Adult SEL Challenges
1. Gratitude Journal Challenge
Take 5 minutes at the end of each day to write down three things you are grateful for. These can be small, everyday things or larger events or moments. Reflecting on gratitude can boost your mood and help you focus on the positives, even on tough days.
2. Mindful Breaks Challenge
Set a timer to remind yourself to take a 2-minute mindful break every couple of hours. During this time, step away from your work, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. This small practice can help reduce stress and increase focus throughout the day.
3. Positive Affirmation Challenge
Start your day by repeating a positive affirmation to yourself, such as "I am capable and ready to take on today’s challenges." Share this practice with a colleague or a friend to encourage a supportive and positive work environment.
