Principal's Report

A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East

Principal'sReportA Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley MiddleSchool East

A Word From Dr. Clune

Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,

Our Spring Band and Choral Concerts were Outstanding! We have exceptionally talented students and teachers. Don't miss the last concert of the season. Our Spring Orchestra Concert is this Thursday, May 23rd at 7:30PM. Please join us.

As many of you will already know from Dr. Russell's newsletter, this is my last school year as Principal of East. I will be transitioning to a new role in District Office this summer. My 16 years here at East have been an incredible experience. I leave with many memories and tremendous pride in all that we accomplished together. I also leave knowing that PV East will be in the capable hands of its new principal, South's Principal, Mr. Dave D'Andre.

We are over the moon excited to announce that PVMS East has been selected by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and U.S. Forest Service to receive an Artemis Moon Tree ! The tree seed flew aboard Artemis I in 2022. The seed travelled farther than any space craft made for humans has ever gone during a 25 ½ day journey beyond the Moon and back! This Moon Tree will be planted at PV Woods - Lenape Arboretum. This tree will inspire generations of students to become scientists, environmental stewards, and astronauts, as well as to always reach for the stars! Much more to come but watch this video below to learn more about Moon Trees .

This is the last call. We are planning to break ground soon on a Dedication Garden so now is the time to purchase a brick or become sponsor. Consider honoring a person or event in this beautiful garden. It will provide a wonderful pathway and sitting area through a butterfly garden. The entire garden was designed by master gardeners at Penn State Extension. If you are interested in having a personalized brick, please use this link: https://4everbricks.com/donors/PVMSE/

Sincerely,

Seamus Clune, Ph.D.

PBIS Reward

Our 7th Graders were the only class to earn a PBIS water ice incentive for maintaining excellent behavior in the cafeteria for one month. Way to go 7th Grade! You ROCK! The Rita’s water ice came in mango, cotton candy, and Swedish fish flavors and the class really enjoyed the extended 30 minutes of recess!

8th Gr. Celebratory Field Trip

What a day the 8th graders had at Camp America! Fun was had by all as our students played basketball, volleyball, kickball, baseball, and even went boating and kayaking on the lake. Over 500 burgers, hotdogs, and bags of chips were consumed by this hungry bunch. Their teachers couldn’t be more proud. It was a great way to celebrate their final days at East.

7th Annual Art & Foodtruck Festival

The Perkiomen Valley School District Art Department is proud to host its 7th annual Art & Food Truck Festival on Saturday, June 1st from 11 - 3 pm at PV High School. The festival was established to create awareness for our students and community members of the numerous careers in the art fields. Our mission is to encourage students to pursue their aspirations in the arts while also supporting local artists.

In addition to the Art and Food Trucks, we pride ourselves in promoting our local businesses, large and small. I am reaching out to see if anyone in the West Community has a local business or connection to a company that might be interested in donating items for our raffle. The donation could include a company themed basket, gift card, coupons or even an offered service. All proceeds of the event raffle will benefit our PV art students in grades K-12 through PVAB, the Perkiomen Valley Art Booster Club! Check out our booster club at www.pvab.org!

If you are interested in supporting our event, please contact Christina Bolc, AFTF Raffle Basket Coordinator at Raffles@pvartfest.com to coordinate your donation. All donations are due by Friday, May 17th, 2024.

Thank you in advance for supporting the Perkiomen Valley Art Department!

New Garden Coming Spring 2024!

Our Green Team and Loss Group are co-sponsoring a certified butterfly garden and wildlife habitat that was designed by Master Gardeners at Penn State Extension. It will be located at the front of the school by the main office and include 3 benches and a picnic table. This garden is yet to be named by the students but will be a place to memorialize and honor people and events through a personalized brick pathway that will run through the middle of the garden. You can help us fundraise by purchasing a brick for the pathway.

https://4everbricks.com/donors/PVMSE/

Please email Dr. Clune directly if you want to sponsor the picnic table ($1,400) or a bench ($800) or be listed as a sponsor ($1000) on the sign.

Amazon Wishlist for PBIS

Parents, we need your help! Your students have been working hard to show ROCK behavior and it is time for them to be rewarded. Students have been earning ROCK tickets throughout the first marking period and it is time for them to start cashing them in for prizes, but we need your help. Please consider purchasing an item or two from our PVMS East ROCK Shop Amazon Wishlist. Purchases will be sent to East and delivered to the ROCK shop where your students can purchase them with their hard-earned tickets. Here is the link to the list:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/23T8340T72HK3?ref_=wl_share

We can also use Amazon gift cards, gift cards to local restaurants and stores, as well as any Philadelphia sports fan gear you would like to donate. We love our community and appreciate your support of our students and school.

SAFE2SAY

We reviewed our Safe 2 Say program last week. Our students viewed the video below during their Advisory period.

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Did you know that the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisit Lifeline?

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

https://988lifeline.org/current-events/the-lifeline-and-988/

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
