We want to recognize our school counselors and psychologists for the amazing work they do with and for our students! They are absolute superstars and show their dedication to our students on a daily basis!

Ms. Johnson, Mrs. Pecuch, Ms. Napolitan and Ms. Dignam

We see you - We appreciate you!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

Pokemon cards have become a problem at Tawanka. They are a proven distraction in the learning environment and are therefore banned from being brought into school. I informed students this morning with an announcement over the PA system. Teachers and staff will be strictly enforcing this rule by confiscating any Pokemon cards going forward.

Please have your child leave Pokemon cards, toys and similar items at home.

Thank you,

Mr. Palmer

Valentine's Day Reminder

While students may bring in Valentines for their classmates, there is to be NO candy or food items. This is very important for the safety of our students with food allergies.

Thank you for your cooperation!

No School 2/21 & 2/22

Monday, February 21st - DISTRICT CLOSED for Presidents Day.

Tuesday, February 22nd - NO SCHOOL for students. Act 80 Day.

Students go outside for a 30 minute recess every day unless it is below 20° with the wind chill or inclement weather. In those cases, students stay indoors and have many fun activities to choose from - building blocks, coloring pages, puzzles, oh my! Here are some photos of first graders enjoying indoor recess!

What's in a name?

As a February family project, Mrs. Banks’ class shared their name story. We learned how our classmates and Mrs. Banks got their names.

What's hidden in my mitten?

The kindergarten children in Mrs. Neff's Class challenged their classmates to guess what they put in their mitten. Each child gave three clues, but didn't name their object! It was a huge success and is part of our Canvas Kindergarten Writing lessons.

Mrs. Mannherz

Mrs. Mannherz’s class acted out a special play from our Superkids Reader. The play was called “The Contest” and is about a contest between the sun and wind. Each student played the part of either The Reader, The Sun, The Wind or The Man. The contest was to see who could get The Man to take off his coat. Ask your First Grader who won? and Why?

Better 2gether

February is Kindness Month in Second Grade! We kicked off Kindness Month with Better Together TWOSDAY on 2/2/22. We talked about what makes good pairs and how to be a good friend.

We have read:

  • The Jelly Donut Difference by Maria Dismond
  • Peanut Butter and Cupcakes by Terry Border
  • Enemy Pie by Derek Munson

And many more books about friendship!

Join us in our Kindness Challenge!

We celebrated filling up our marble jar with GLOW DAY! Students got to wear glow sticks all day, participated in dance party brain breaks, read-to-self using flash lights, wrote their spelling words in the air with glow sticks, and completed math around the room glow-stick style! It was a fun-filled, educational day!

Mrs. Smith

Hi! My name is Beth Smith. I’m a long term substitute Reading Specialist. I love working with kids from all grade levels. It’s great to see kids become better readers and writers.
