8th Grade Update 3/23
ESports Interest Form
My name is Mr. Sharaba, and I’m looking for the best gamers at Strongsville.
Before coming here, I coached competitive esports at my former district, where we have won regional and state trophies, and I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to build a championship team. Now, I want to bring that same energy here.
This isn't just about playing games after school. We’re talking about official competitions, state trophies, and traveling to live events.
THE FIRST STEP: I need to know who is ready to compete. Whether you've played games casually or play ranked, fill out this 2-minute interest form:
https://forms.gle/UyyXJqLPbk6pYNwbA
If you can fill it out before spring break (end of March), it would be most appreciated as we can get the ball rolling.
Mr Sharaba
Congratulations
Strongsville Middle School Chess Team participated in the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Chess League (GCSCL) tournament held at Rocky River High School on 3/14. SMS was represented by Akashh and Aditya. They both secured a second place in the U16 team standings. Great job, SMS is proud of you!
Harshith Nelabhotla, an 8th grade student at SMS, participated in the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF). Harshith won 1st Place in the Computer Science and Mathematics category and also won the Grand Prize at the fair.
His project focused on real-time American Sign Language (ASL) word recognition, demonstrating how technology can assist with communication accessibility.
In addition, he was honored with special awards from Rockwell Automation and the NEOSEF Board of Directors.
Congratulations Harshith, we are proud of your wonderful accomplishments.
Voyager Corner
Welcome to VOYAGER CORNER. SMS offers a wide selection of engaging encore classes (Art, Music, P.E., FCS, Polaris, Career Connections, Technology, and so much more). All of our encore teachers are part of the Voyager Team and we'd like to highlight some of the amazing things happening at SMS in our Voyager courses.
VOYAGER CORNER Edition 4: Music Department
For our 4th edition, we're sharing lots of photos from our music department! These include special events that our bands participated in during 1st semester, many performances by our choirs, and students in Orchestra at the homecoming parade, fall concerts, and Movie Night! Click this link!
Reminder for parents dropping off students in the AM
I've attached our video that was created to demonstrate proper procedures when dropping off. This system has been proven to work in an efficient way when followed. Just a couple reminders:
1. Please use the road around the back of the building when dropping off in the morning.
2. If you are the first car, please pull all the way up in the drop off area giving space for 3 cars to unload at a time.
3. No passing at all to provide a safe space for students to unload.
Please make sure we have updated information for your student for the 25-26 school year. Please log in to PowerSchool and confirm enrollment details as soon as possible. Without this update, students may not be able to attend field trips or enjoy quarterly incentives off campus.
How to update information on PowerSchool -- please note, this must be done on a desktop.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Chris Broughton, Technology Coordinator/Data Manager, at cbroughton@scsmustangs.org.
Thank you for your prompt attention!
