Future Spirit Days!

Even though we are not gathering for our Future Football Games this year, we are still bringing the spirit! For RootEd, the point of the Future days is to introduce elementary and middle school students to their high schools. We want to show them how exciting a football game is and put their future in front of them. Students who fall in love with their upcoming schools are less likely to be pulled to go elsewhere. Whether your high school is the only game in town or your district has many high schools, building up a community is so important to the future of the school.

So while we are choosing not to gather, we are still working with the elementaries and middles to bring the high school spirit. The students can still get excited, they can learn through videos and shout-outs from the teachers. Plus it's a simple activity you can do for kids at home and on campus. Let's bring the spirit!!

Churchill vs. Reagan Future Spirit Day was a success! It was so fun to see pictures of elementary and middle school students in their spirit gear! Loved seeing the signs Harmony Hills Elem made and the social media spirit throwdown that Bush MS put out.

Coming up is Clark vs. Johnson's Future Spirit Day on Dec 3rd. Please share the graphic on your socials and get your students excited!!! Can't wait to see who brings the spirit!

Future Charger Video

Thanks to Mr. Bloomer, Principal of Churchill HS, for putting together this video to show his feeder students. It's a perfectly RootEd video because Mr. Bloomer understands what it takes to grab these kiddos from the beginning. Getting the elementary and middle school students to be excited about their future high school is really important in the enrollment process. THANK YOU, Mr. Bloomer!!!

Commentary: Blame Texas Education Agency for unsafe classrooms

TEA is what’s standing in the way of our schools receiving the necessary support and resources to resolve any safety issues they are facing.

Keeping the BUZZ alive!

So great to see McAuliffe Elem in SWISD putting on the campus Spanish Spelling Bee for both campus and virtual students. A great opportunity for these kiddos! Many students look forward to this competition every year and it's great to see it going as planned!!

Skate Club

Wood MS in NEISD posted this pic on social media, describing how awesome their Friday clubs are for their students! We love this post because it is something unique about their school and an action shot of students having fun at school! They used their RootEd hashtag so that we knew we had permission to share and so that parents who are shopping will find the post! Loved everything about this!!

Outdoor teaching

Great post from Mrs. Mallard at Colonies North in NISD. She shared that her students collaborated with students at home to work on wetland curriculum. This is such a great way to show that they're being creative in a time of Covid and also showing the creative way she was able to be outside.

Churchill Extravaganza

Two of our RootEd Co-Founders ran into NEISD Churchill Principal Bloomer at the Churchill Band Extravaganza. This event brought all Churchill feeder middle schools along with the Churchill band together to perform songs on the football field. It was an amazing experience for the middle school students and a great opportunity for the high school band to show everyone how it's done!

Rep Spotlight!

We are spotlighting Jenny Schweers who is a Lead Rep for Harmony Hills Elem and Eisenhower MS in NEISD. Jenny jumped to join RootEd in the beginning of our creation. She works really hard sharing all that her schools have to offer. Jenny has a huge heart for public education and truly understands the benefits it brings having her children in her neighborhood schools.

"I am so thankful for the many educators who devote their time and gifts to teaching our students, it is easy to want to share all the wonderful things happening at our schools! I grew up in a very diverse school system, and loved my experience - learning to appreciate people of all races, backgrounds and socio-economic levels - all bringing their unique gifts to a community. My husband and I wanted that for our children as well. When I learned about RootEd and that they "believe a strong public school system for all children creates a robust economy and well-connected community," I wanted to be part of it! When you don't live in a neighborhood, it's easy to prejudge a school by it's rating or STAAR testing ... but RootEd helps tell about the true heart of a school, it's students and their families that make up that community.

Harmony Hills Elem is a small neighborhood school with incredible teachers and staff! We've been blessed by educators that invest in our children not only as students, but as individuals and future leaders. We didn't know what to expect starting middle school, but Eisenhower MS has amazing staff that care so much about their students and have been very supportive and helpful! I'm happy to be a RootEd Rep at both Harmony Hills Elem and IKE, because both campuses have great things going on that need to be celebrated! It's important for parents to show appreciation for what educators are doing for our students everyday...they deserve our recognition and encouragement!"
