Mrs. Jill McKeeman, TOPS Middle School Principal
Matt Maitland, TOPS Middle School and High School Principal
Hi everyone, I'm Matt Maitland, and I'm excited to be joining the TOPS team as Principal of Engagement Accountability and Special Education. Before this, I spent time as a middle school principal and assistant principal in the Stride/K12 virtual world. Before moving into virtual education, I served as a brick-and-mortar high school principal, brick-and-mortar middle school principal, a K-12 curriculum director back in Michigan, and started my career as an 8th grade science teacher in Round Rock, Texas. Along the way I've picked up a real love for building systems that actually help kids stay engaged and moving forward, especially in the online space where connection takes a little more intentionality. I lean data-driven and systems-minded, but at the end of the day the work is about people, and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.
Outside of work, family is the center of my world. My wife Amanda and I have six kids, five girls and one boy, so life around here is never quiet. Our place is a full-on operation with four dogs, four cats, and a herd of Kune Kune pigs that we raise. There's always something going on, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
When I get a little free time, you'll usually find me in my home gym, on the court for church league basketball on Wednesday nights, or outdoors as a hunter, outdoorsman, and camping enthusiast. I'm always chasing the next challenge, and an elk hunt is high on my list. I care a lot about staying healthy and dialed in, and I bring that same energy into the work I do with our team. I'm genuinely glad to be here, and I can't wait to learn about TOPS, learn from you, and help to continue the standard of excellence that TOPS is known for.
Ms. Gant, Texas Career and College Prep Principal
Ms. Gant is super enthusiastic to join the TOPS family as the Texas Career and College Prep Principal. This is Ms. Gant’s 17th year in education where she has had the honor of educating and serving in Fort Bend ISD, overseas in the United Arab Emirates, and most recently here with our K12 family. She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Thomas University, her Jurist Doctorate from Western Michigan Cooley Law School, and her Master’s in Education Administration from Houston Baptist University. She is thrilled to continue this part of her journey with our TOPS students and families.
