Principal Wilson's Message #10
October 31, 2026
Week In Review
Dear Families,
This week was full of fun, learning, and opportunities to grow together as a school community!
We celebrated our first Spirit Week, and it was wonderful to see so many students and staff participate. Thank you for helping make the week a success. Events like these build school pride, strengthen connections, and create joyful shared experiences for our students.
Our 2nd grade students also wrapped up the week with a field trip to the pumpkin patch. Thank you to our volunteers for your support in helping ensure students had a safe, fun, and memorable experience.
In classrooms across Emerson, students continued learning both academic and social-emotional skills. At Emerson, we believe both are essential. Just as students learn reading, writing, and math skills through explicit instruction, practice, mistakes, feedback, and reteaching, the same is true for social-emotional skills. Students are not expected to master these skills immediately. Our role as educators is to teach, model, support, and provide opportunities for students to practice and grow over time.
I have heard from families with questions about how we respond to student behavior. As Seattle Public Schools staff, we are committed to ensuring every student experiences a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. When incidents occur, we follow district protocols, partner with families, consult with district staff as needed, and provide both accountability and support to help students learn from their actions. While I am always available to discuss concerns involving your child, district policy does not allow us to discuss discipline or consequences involving other students.
As a school community, we believe every student deserves to feel safe, valued, seen, and welcomed. Children will make mistakes as they learn and grow, and we are committed to helping them learn from those moments while remaining connected to our school community.
Finally, next week's Eagle Ticket focus is "Safe: Using Kind Words." Please take a moment to talk with your child about the power of words and the importance of speaking kindly to others, even when they are upset or experiencing big emotions.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We appreciate all you do to help make Emerson a caring and thriving community for every student.
Go Eagles!

Attendance Message
Happy November Families!
As we welcome November, our students have settled into their classroom communities. This month, let’s ask a simple question: What makes your child excited about coming to school?
Every day in elementary school is filled with moments that can’t be replicated at home. Arriving on time helps your child start the day with confidence and a smile. Students aren’t just learning to read and solve math problems; they’re also building friendships at recess, sharing stories in morning circles, and discovering the joy of working together.
When students miss even two days a month, they can miss important social connections and foundational lessons. Building good attendance habits now can set your child up for success for years to come.
How can you help this month:
· Keep a consistent bedtime and morning routine.
· Lay out clothes and backpacks the night before.
· Talk to your child about their favorite part of the school day.
If your family is facing any barriers to getting to school, please reach out. We’re always here to help!
In partnership,
Ms. Dede

School Based Threat
As we continue to be proactive with staff, students, and families, we want to remind our community that Seattle Public Schools takes all school safety concerns and threats seriously. Similar to our other safety drills and procedures, we review expectations and protocols so that staff and students know how to respond. SPS has established policies and procedures that schools are required to follow. While we can openly discuss safety practices and prevention efforts, student confidentiality laws prevent us from discussing disciplinary actions involving individual students. We encourage families to review the applicable Superintendent Procedures and thank you for your partnership in helping keep our school safe and welcoming for all.
