Knox Middle School Newsletter!
The week before Thanksgiving is one of our favorite weeks of the school year. Thank you to Mr. Ponsford for organizing our annual Knox Turkey Drive! Our team delivered over 75 turkeys along with $50 gift cards to Food for Less to our Knox families. We are so thankful for our sponsors at 93.3, Positive Movement, Wheelhouse Credit and a local church community for financially supporting this event. Please take a moment to watch the video above.
Academic Focus:
Knox teachers are hard at work preparing for their formal observations and implementing our Marzano plans. Each teacher is developing a strong and measurable learning target. As a site we are focused on teaching the priority standards (Critical Concepts) and scaffolding our instruction for our Multilingual Learners. Each department is aligning their yearly plans to the prioritized standards and planning common assessments with their PLCs. As a site we are working on Action Research focused on Checking for Understanding and overcoming barriers with instructional strategies and routines.
Attendance focus:
We are open for Saturday and Sunday school to clear absences. Students are encouraged to clear all days they miss. We are open from 8-12pm.
This month at Knox we have also had many awesome events happening on campus. These include:
- Over 40 parents participating in our PIQE program (Parent Institute for Quality Education) who will graduate in the next 2 weeks!
- Our annual Knox Turkey Drive
- 8th grade students took a tour of the San Diego downtown courthouse
- Our Knox teachers took a field trip to the VEBA wellness center and participated in sound healing and chair yoga.
- We hosted Picture Day for all students and staff
- 5th grade parents joined us for a campus tour
Reminders:
- Parent conferences are on 12/8 on campus from 2-3:30. These are open to parents of students that received D or F on the P2 report card.
- 6th grade students should return their permission slips to participate in swimming lessons at the YMCA.
- Our Parent Circles and Food Pantry events will continue twice a month after PIQE graduation. These are open to all parents.
- Our annual MLK march is January 13th. Students are dismissed at 1pm that day. Please make sure your student has their permission slip signed.
- LOTE testing

Primetime: Arc
Hello PrimeTime Parents,
The holiday season is here! As we enter this last month of the year, we reflect on how our first quarter of school went. We have gained so many new wonderful students, all of which bring in new ideas for the development of program. November was a short month, but it was full of many fun activities! Our students were able to showcase their creativity through different art and STEM projects. For December, we want to keep our momentum with the innovative programs so this month we are introducing other fun and exciting clubs for students to enjoy.
Please continue encouraging all students to please take care of themselves. They need to follow all the health guidelines to make sure we can all have a great school year. Also, all Primetime students need to check-in immediately after school ends. If students are being picked up early, parents/guardians must call me to let me know they will not be attending PrimeTime for the day. May all families enjoy the holidays and the upcoming breaks with their loved ones! We look forward to seeing everyone afterwards in the new year.
Thank You,
Kevin Cervantes
