Welcome Back, Wildcat Families!

1/3/26

A Message from Dr. Delgado:

We hope you and your family enjoyed a restful and joyful winter holiday break. We are excited to welcome our students back to campus on Tuesday, January 6th as we begin a brand-new semester together!

I am incredibly proud of our students and teachers for the progress we are seeing in student achievement, as demonstrated on our 2nd Nine Weeks Assessments. These assessments were cumulative, covering learning from the entire semester, and were 100% comprised of STAAR-released questions. While we know there is still room for growth—as we learned from our first nine weeks data—we are firmly on track to achieve our goals this year. Our team remains committed to working diligently throughout the second semester to ensure we meet or exceed those goals by the end of the year.

As we continue striving toward excellence, we are counting on both students and families to play their part. Please help us by ensuring your child arrives on time and attends school daily. We also encourage you to stay in close communication with your child’s teachers and remain up to date on what students are learning in the classroom so that you can reinforce and incorporate that learning at home as well. Strong attendance, consistent engagement, and family partnership are key components of student success.

A few important reminders as we return:

  • Teachers will submit semester grades on Monday, January 5th.

  • Report cards will be available on Tuesday, January 13th.

  • At this time, students may gain or lose UIL eligibility based on semester grades.

We are also looking ahead to an exciting event for our families: our 8th Grade Invasion and Family Night with a High School Fair on Thursday, January 22nd. Additional details can be found in the newsletter below.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to working together and welcome any questions you may have as we move forward. We are excited to begin the new semester and welcome our Wildcats back!

Celebrating Growth & Focusing on What’s Next Celebrating Growth & Focusing on What’s Next

We are excited to share highlights from our 2nd Nine Weeks assessment data, which reflects student learning from the entire first semester. This data helps us celebrate successes while also identifying where we will focus our efforts moving forward.

  • Green areas represent courses where we have already met or exceeded our goal for the year based on first-semester learning.

  • Pink areas indicate courses that are within 5 percentage points of our goal and are well within reach with continued growth.

  • Red areas highlight courses where we are furthest from our goals and will receive additional targeted support.

One major celebration we are proud to share is that nearly 100% of our courses showed growth from the 1st Nine Weeks to the 2nd Nine Weeks. This is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks to the hard work of our students and teachers. We are excited to build on this momentum as we move into the next nine-week period.

In the coming weeks, we will begin identifying students who would benefit from additional support—either based on their current achievement or their academic growth from the previous year. Families of these students will be contacted and invited to participate in after-school tutoring sessions. To support student success, snacks and transportation will be provided.

We ask for your partnership in ensuring 100% participation in these support sessions when students are invited. This additional learning time will not only help us continue growing as a school community, but will also ensure each student enters the coming year confident, prepared, and ready to achieve at or beyond their potential.

Our continued focus will be working alongside our instructional teams to sustain growth and ensure we reach our goals in 100% of our courses. We are proud of how far we have come and cannot wait to see where the next nine weeks take us.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we move forward together.

Course Selection & Choice Sheets: Important Information for All Families

It is already time to begin planning for next year’s courses, and we are excited to guide all of our Wildcats through this process!

⭐ 8th Grade Course Selection & High School Transition

Our 8th grade students will kick off the course selection season with the 8th Grade Invasion on January 22nd. During the school day, students will participate in the Pfuture Pfreshman Pfair at Connally High School, where they will be introduced to the wide range of programs, pathways, and opportunities available to them in high school.

That evening, families are invited to Connally HS for a special Family Night, during which you can:

  • Learn about high school programs, academies, and elective options

  • Meet CHS staff and counselors

  • Tour the campus and facilities

  • Attend the Course Fair, a great opportunity to explore courses, clubs, and organizations for next year

All 8th grade students will complete their 2025–2026 course selections in SchooLinks, where they will also formalize their Personal Graduation Plans (PGPs). This planning ensures that students select courses aligned to their academic goals, endorsements, and postsecondary interests.

🗓️ Key Dates for 8th Grade Families

  • January 22: 8th Grade Invasion + Pfuture Pfreshman Pfair (daytime) & CHS Family Night

  • January 23 – February 6: Two-Week Course Selection Window in SchooLinks

    • All course selections must be submitted in SchooLinks by February 6

  • By February 27: Students & parents must review and confirm their Personal Graduation Plans (PGP) in SchooLinks

To ensure smooth communication, please verify that your email address is correct and up to date. If you need to make changes, contact our registrar, Ms. Hilchey, at (512) 594-2237 or Stephanie.Hilchey@Pfisd.net.

Choice Sheets for 6th & 7th Grade Students

Our 6th and 7th grade Wildcats will complete paper choice sheets in February. These must be fully completed and turned in before March 6th. Counselors will visit classrooms to guide students through their options and answer questions.

Incoming 6th Graders (Current 5th Graders)

We look forward to welcoming our future Wildcats!
To support a smooth transition to middle school:

  • February 6: 5th Grade Campus Visits to WVMS

  • February 10: 5th Grade Family Night at WVMS

📱 Cell Phone Reminder

At Westview Middle School, our goal is to maintain a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. As a reminder, cell phones are not allowed to be seen or used during the school day. This includes hallways, classrooms, and common areas.

To support consistency across the district, we will be following the PfISD Cell Phone Consequence Ladder for any violations:

OffenseConsequence

1st OffenseDevice confiscated — must be picked up by a parent or guardian.

2nd OffenseDevice confiscated and lunch detention assigned (documented in Skyward).

3rd OffenseDevice confiscated, ½ day of ISS, and a parent meeting required.

Chronic IssuesMay result in a full day of ISS, a behavior plan, or a temporary ban on bringing the device to school.

We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation at home. When students are free from distractions, they can better focus, engage, and succeed in their learning.

💜 Go Wildcats — focused and ready to learn!

New Transportation Badge System

Beginning this month, the PfISD Transportation Department will introduce a new Transportation Badge System for students who ride the school bus. This system is designed to make transportation even safer and more efficient for our Wildcats.

Students who ride the bus will receive a new ID badge from the transportation department. They will simply scan their badge when getting on and off the bus, allowing district staff to ensure students are always on the correct bus and helping families stay informed. This system helps prevent mix-ups and gives everyone greater peace of mind—nothing more, and nothing to worry about.

These new badges are multi-purpose, too! Students will be able to:

  • Access breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria

  • Check out books in the library

  • Wear the badge daily as part of our regular school ID expectations

If your child does not ride the bus, they will continue using their current school badge, and no changes are needed.

We appreciate your partnership as we roll out this helpful system that supports student safety and smooth daily routines for all.

Lunch Visits with Your Wildcat Lunch Visits with Your Wildcat

We love seeing our Wildcat families join their students for lunch! Families are always welcome to bring outside food and enjoy lunch with their child at our picnic tables. These moments mean so much to our students, and we truly enjoy having our families here on campus.

If you would like to have lunch with your child, simply stop by the front office when you arrive. Our staff will call your student out of the cafeteria, and you can briefly sign them out and back in once lunch is finished. It’s a simple process, and a wonderful way to stay connected with your child during the school day.

We hope to see you at lunch soon!

We’re proud to share that our students have been doing a much better job getting to class on time!
