Happy Fall!!!

Take time to enjoy the change that the season brings!! Students have 'settled' in well and are comfortable with daily routines and procedures. Teachers and students are focused on learning in all content areas. Literacy continues to be a major focus! We strive daily to create responsive readers who react and respond to text DAILY. Teachers are carefully monitoring student progress through daily assessment and observation of student work.

We are so fortunate to have such a community of motivated students, involved parents, and dedicated staff members!!! Thanks for sharing your wonderful

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR ONLINE AND IN SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Families:

Did you know? Reading just 20
minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year. Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary, and in addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!

Encourage your child to read books for fun by attending our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Allow your child to choose the books they want to read! It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.

Mark your calendar!

Book Fair dates: Monday, October 8 – Friday, October 12

Shopping hours: During School Hours 9:30 - 3:30

Special activities: Family Night Tuesday, October 9, 4:30pm-7:00pm

If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our Online Fair at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/ruthannmonroeprimaryschool1.

Our Online Fair is available from October 3 – October 21.

We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school. Thank you for supporting our readers!

Sincerely,

Tori Brumback

Extra Clothing

FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE

Please help us out and place an extra set of clothing (pants, shirt, underwear, socks) in your child’s book bag to use for emergencies. The health office doesn’t receive donations like they used to. Already our supplies have seriously dwindled. Also if clothes are borrowed, please wash them and return to the health office.

Thank You!

SECOND STEP

In September, our school wide theme was skills for learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we reminded students of these skills, which help them be successful learners.

This month (October), our schoolwide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements and school assembly we’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

You will continue to receive Home Links that describe these lessons and why they are important and include fun activities to do with your child to help him or her. We hope you find them helpful.
