Maverick Community News: October 20th - 25th
Welcome Back Mav Nation!
Good Morning Mav Nation,
I hope everyone had a great Fall Break. As students and staff return to school tomorrow (Monday, 10/20), we want to remind everyone of a few things:
Attendance
It is important for students to arrive on time to school daily. Students are tardy if they are not in their 1st period by 7:20 AM.
Student IDs
All students received a 2025-2026 student ID at the beginning of the school year. Students need to wear their ID everyday as this is an added safety measure put in place to protect our students. Students will need their ID to ride the bus and they are also being used in the cafeteria. The student ID is a required part of the daily dress code. Please make sure your student has their ID as they return to class on Monday.
Report Card Grades and UIL
Friday, October 10th wat the end of the 1st 9 weeks. Teachers have until 11:59 PM Monday, 10/20 to update their grades. Students who pass all their classes on the report card, will be eligible for the entire 2nd 9 weeks. Skyward has an APP that can be downloaded on your device. This will make keeping up with your student's grades and attendance easier.
Dresscode
As we begin a new 9 weeks, students need to follow the Alvin ISD dress code. As I say all the time, if we can do the little things right (grades, attendance and dress code), we won't have to worry about the big things. The full dress code can be found by clicking here
Cell Phones
HB 1481 bans all cell phones and electronics during the school day. This is a state law and we do not have the authority to choose whether or not to comply with the law. Students are well aware of the law and the consequences but we need parental support. If parents are having to pick up a cell phone from the campus, this is your students 2nd violation. All students can pickup their phone after school on their 1st infraction. We kindly ask that parents not yell at our front office staff if you are having to pick up a phone. We also need parents to wait until dismissal to retrieve cell phones. We have had several instances of cell phones being taken and parents demanding to pick them up 30 minutes later. The bookkeeper has other roles and responsibilities that must be completed and she cannot continue to stop multiple times a day to address cell phone issues.
I have high expectations for my students, my staff and myself as I know MHS is a great campus with amazing students and caring staff. We are successful because we have a common goal to provide an academically rich environment to prepare our students for post secondary opportunities.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we begin the 2nd 9 weeks.
Hoka Hey,
Jamie Baldwin

Beginning with the 2025–26 school year, parents must complete two forms in the Skyward Parent Portal:
- Health Notice and Consent Form
- Counseling Notice and Consent Form
Forms will be available beginning August 30, 2025, and must be submitted by September 12, 2025.
Please note: While parental consent is required for health and mental health services, certain legally required activities—such as behavioral threat assessments—require parental notification but do not allow an opt-out option under the law.
Senate Bill 12: Parental Consent for Club Participation
During the 89th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 was passed, requiring school districts to inform parents and guardians of their rights and to seek parental consent for students to participate in clubs.
Per SB 12: A school district or open-enrollment charter school must require the written consent of the parent of or person standing in parental relation to a student enrolled in the district or school before the student may participate in a student club.
Below is the Consent Form that must be completed for students to participate in clubs on campus.
Students must wear their ID and be in Dress Code Daily

Parents please check your email from CADY. Our picture company has been sending emails to all Class of 2026 families with emails registered in Skyward.
Unlike underclassmen pictures, every senior has the opportunity to take a selection of senior photos. CADY offers a variety of sessions but all seniors must sign-up for a session to ensure your picture is included in the Yearbook and in the slideshow that is shown before graduation.
If you do not want to complete a full photoshoot with CADY, at the bottom of "Choose Sessions", there is a yearbook only session for $10. The $10 sitting fee is a fundraiser for the senior class and is used to help lower the cost for the senior trip, prom, etc.
Don't want to go to the CADY Studio, No worries! There will be 4 Senior Roadshows were the studio will come to MHS. You still must BOOK the session online. This is a great option if you only want the Standard ($59), Simple ($29) or Yearbook Only ($10) session.

2025 Volleyball Schedule
As we look ahead to a successful 2025-26 school year, we want to make you aware of a new state law, House Bill 1481, which was passed by the Texas Legislature. House Bill 1481 prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day.
This law applies to:
- Cell phones
- Smartwatches
- Earbuds and headphones
- Tablets or any device that can text, call, record, or access the internet
In Alvin ISD, the expectation is simple: Not Seen. Not Heard. Not Taken.
Students may bring phones and personal electronic devices to school.
However, from the moment students enter the building in the morning until the final dismissal bell cell phones must be powered off or silenced, stored in a backpack or locker, and not used during class, passing periods, lunch, or restroom breaks.
Use in the Hallways
The use of personal communication devices in prohibited at all times.
Use at Lunch
Lunch is considered part of the school day so the use of electronic devices is prohibited under Texas Law.
Emergency Situations
Administrators may approve the use of cell phones in emergency situations where the device is necessary for the health or safety of students or others.
The Texas law requires school districts to administer disciplinary consequences if students violate the personal communication device policy in schools. Each infraction of this policy will result in the following escalating consequences:
- First offense – Device taken, returned to student
- Second – Parent must pick up
- Third – $15 fine + parent pickup
Refusal to hand over a device = disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct
Why this matters:
This law supports focused classrooms, respectful spaces, and safe learning for all.
Parents:
Please talk with your child about expectations before school starts. For emergencies, contact the campus office.
