Preschool HighlightsWeek of September 12th - 16th

Picture Day is Friday, September 23rd Picture Day is Friday, September 23rd

We made it though our first full week of school! Whoo Hooooo! We are learning a lot about school, how to stay safe, friendship, and learning about each other. The children are getting to know the norms, school safety, how to use classroom materials, and classroom exception. It's not easy but everyone is doing a great job at helping each other out. We made it to gym time, started our social emotional learning of Second Step, and attended the Kindergarten ringing in ceremony. Next week, we are learning more about our classmates by our big first learning unit of... All About Me!

Second Step

We introduce our social/ emotional learning program of Second Step. Please check out your Friday Folder for a quick introduction on the program and a at home activation link. As well, each week will be a new topic of discussion and home link on our news letter.

This week we learn all about welcoming! The children learned, there are many ways to welcome someone new to class, welcoming someone is a way to show you care, welcoming helps other children feel they belong to the class. By welcoming a new friend to the class we give a friendly greeting, say their names, and demonstrate showing someone new around the classroom.

Small Group Activity

This week we focus our small group activity on our CT ELDS of Language and Literacy domain by identifying the first letter of our names. On a large piece of paper is the child's first letter of their name. Using the paper we made for out paper salad, we then added those pieces of paper to the letter.

While we were creating out letter, the children where working one our CT ELDS of Mathematics domain by counting how many paper squares and looking for patterns, classifying groups of colors and recognizing quantity.

The children also did a fun interactive glueing activity! We have lots of students enjoying creating art with paper and glue. While we are learning about how to use classroom materials, working with the bottles of glue can be difficult. With some practice, the children are learning to make small glue dots with the liquid glue bottles. This supported the CT ELDS skill of fine motor for squeezing the bottle and using hand-eye coordination to make small dots of glue. Afterwards, we got to add glitter to our glue dot star!
