Week 16
Weekly Update
Dear Elmore Families,
We made it through another very busy week at the Elmore School. This was our first spirit week and the students and teachers all showed up each day with great participation. It was fun to see the children excited to dress each day in the theme. Thank you to the parents who helped students plan their outfits each day.
We were busy this week completing secret pal projects and making greeting cards for special people in our lives and community members.
One of our favorite things about the Elmore school is our connection to the community. On Wednesday, dressed as elves, we made our way across the street to the Elmore Store where we sang some seasonal carols, accompanied by Joe Ciccolo on guitar. What a treat! Thank you to all the familiy members who were able to make it to see us on short notice.
The weather was was wild this week, beginning with bitter cold and snow and ending with a windy, wet and warm day which caused us to lose most of our snow! Thankfully we were able to adjust our schedule and have ECO on Thursday when were treated to sunny skies and wonderful snow. Our Focus for the day was gifts to the forest. We read The Wish Tree by Kyo Maclear and then students wrote their wishes to the forest on pieces of birch bark, which they hung on our own wish tree. Then students made gifts of pinecone bird feeders, tree cookie ornaments, and a bear den. Then students enjoyed popcorn popped over the fire. Thank you to our volunteers, Paige and Tina, for helping to make this day successful.
On Thursday afternoon we were treated to a very special community guest visitor, Mrs. Twombly, who read the children a sweet story and brought cookies and cocoa for all to enjoy. Mrs. Twombly is a wonderful supporter of the Elmore School and we always cherish our time spent together.
We have only two day to go before our December break.
On Monday we are making a special lunch at school! We have been learning about some of the traditions of celebrating Hanukkah. To celebrate the last day of Hanukkah, we will make Latkes for lunch. I'd like the children to help with the preparation and could use a few box graters to grate potatoes. If you have one we could borrow for the day, that would be appreciated. Please label it so we can get it back to you.
On Tuesday (fingers crossed for a little more snow), we will go to the state park to go sledding. Please drop off a sled that morning. Sleds are not allowed on the bus, so you will need to pick up your sled at the end of the day. If you are unable to pick up your child / sled we can store your sled in the shed and you can pick it up at your convenience.
Please complete and return your Winter Recreation (ski and skate) permission form and waiver form before break. Parent volunteers are imperative to the success of the program. Please consider volunteering, specially if you are able to nordic ski (and have your own equipment). If we do not have enough parent volunteers we will not be able to offer nordic skiing and all students will need to ice skate instead.
School lunch will only be available this week on Tuesday. Hot lunch will be Sloppy Joe's. Sandwiches and salads are also available. Please submit your lunch order by 6:00 on Sunday . Use the green button below to email me your orders.
Wishing you a Happy Winter Solstice. May your days ahead be filled with love and light!
In Gratitude,
Diane Nicholls
