Northview Familia,

I am thrilled to share some exciting updates from Northview High School!

This week we will have SAT Day for all juniors on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 starting at first period. Please check Parent Square or ask your English teacher for your testing room.

We will have Las Palmas 8th graders visit our school on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 10:00am. Let's show them what it means to be a Viking!

We achieved an average daily attendance rate of 96.7% for the week of 3/4 to 3/8! Keep up the great work, Vikings! Our March Attendance Challenge will be a little different this month. We are focusing on improving our attendance on Mondays. Students who achieve a 10% increase in their attendance for Mondays in March will be entered into a raffle to earn a big prize! Students who earn perfect attendance in March will earn two entries into our raffle. Stay tuned as we reveal the prize.

It is college acceptance season and I would like to take a moment to highlight an outstanding Northview Viking, Marcus T. who was admitted to the United States Marchant Marine Academy on a full scholarship. Congratulations, Marcus!

I would also like to extend an extra special congratulations to seniors Ryan M. and Vincent V. for earning the Capri Deli Scholarship through the Rotary Club last week at the South Hills Country Club.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

Have a great week, Vikings!

Daylight saving time (DST) started this past Sunday, March 10, 2024. Did you remember to set your clocks forward by one hour? If not, no worries, it's never too late to make the change!

Adjusting our clocks isn't the only thing that changes with DST. Some folks might feel a bit off as our bodies get used to the time shift. Here are some tips to help you adjust smoothly:

  • Wake up 30 minutes earlier each day this week to gradually adjust to the time change.

  • Start your mornings with a nutritious breakfast to fuel your day.

  • Take advantage of the longer daylight hours by spending some time outdoors.

  • Stick to your regular exercise routine to boost your energy levels.

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

  • Practice stress-relieving activities like deep breathing or meditation to help you relax.

  • Aim to hit the sack a bit earlier to ensure you're getting enough rest, even if it’s just a few minutes early.

  • Create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping your bedroom dark and cool.

  • Maintain a consistent wake-up time to regulate your body's internal clock.

  • Don't stress about the time change; focus on adjusting gradually and listening to your body's needs.

With these simple adjustments, you'll be back on track in no time!

Wishing you a smooth transition into daylight saving time.

Mr. Chris Grinnell is our Digital Photography teacher. He has taught here at Northview for the last 17 years. Mr. Grinnell has the eye for candid shots and the ability to get students to capture their vision behind the lense.

When Mr. Grinnell is not teaching he really enjoys making various types of art and attending live concerts. While he is entertained by all genres of music, Jimi Hendrix is one of his favorites.

We would like to thank Mr. Grinnell for his years here at Northview and congratulate him on being the recipient of the Presidents Award from LACITEA (Los Angeles County Industrial and Technology Education Association). The awards ceremony is being held at Knotts Berry Farm on April 27, 2024. What an honor!
