Dear Hardy Families,

We are just a few weeks away from the start of the 2026-27 school year! Our teachers return to campus in just over a week and will be busy preparing their classrooms in anticipation of welcoming back our amazing Owls.

Important: Starting Friday, August 7, at noon, you will be able to view your child's teacher assignment through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Parent Portal will not be live until noon. Class lists will not be posted, so be sure to check PowerSchool for this information. If you haven't yet signed up for the Parent Portal, the front office is happy to help. The office opens on Monday, July 27.

Important Information

  • First Day of School: Monday, August 10
  • School Hours: 7:45 AM - 2:10 PM (Wednesdays: 11:55 AM dismissal)
    • TK/K Minimum Days for the first week: 11:55 AM
  • Drop-off: Begins at 7:20 AM. Students enter through the main gate and head to the lunch area. Please do not drop off your child prior to 7:20.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch are provided daily at no cost. Breakfast is served until 7:40 AM. Students may bring a labeled lunch from home
  • Water Bottles: Students are encouraged to bring a labeled water bottle each day

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

  • Vehicle drop-off and pick-up take place on the east side of the school in the new parking lot.
  • Please refer to the photo below to see the traffic flow.
  • Hardy has major traffic concerns during Whole Site Modernization (WSM). Please leave early, observe all traffic laws, and drive slowly — children are present and always watching and listening. Thank you for your kindness and patience in the car line!
  • Families are welcome on campus for morning drop-off on the first day of school. Due to Whole Site Modernization, there is no on-campus parking available for the 2026-27 school year. If you'd like to park and walk your child in on the first day, you must register your car for the P7 lot at SDSU — free parking valid only on Monday, August 10, from 7-9 AM. Click the link to register your vehicle.
  • There is no site parking at Hardy. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please do not park in any assigned or designated staff spot; vehicles will be towed.
  • After the first day, Hardy is a closed campus, meaning only students may enter through the gates in the morning. Families are welcome to volunteer on campus, but must check in at the front office and be an approved volunteer.

TK & Kindergarten Orientation

  • Our TK and Kindergarten teachers invite all families to attend orientation on Friday, August 7, from 10 AM to 12 PM. We will start in the auditorium. Students can participate in "TK/K Signing Day," where they will sign their name and stamp their fingerprint on official Hardy letterhead, making them a part of our team. You'll get to keep this sweet memory forever.

First Day of School

On Monday, August 10, the front gate opens at 7:25 AM. Students will gather in the courtyard — please refer to your teacher's welcome letter for details on where to meet. Their welcome letter will be sent on Friday, August 7.
  • Before the first bell, teachers will be at their "welcome locations" around campus, then head to their classrooms at 7:40 AM.
  • At 7:45 AM, teachers will lead students into class.
  • Families are welcome in classrooms for a short time on the first day only. After that, we ask that hugs and kisses happen before drop-off.

Helpful tip for drop-off success: The easiest way to help your child build independence is with a short, confident goodbye. Lingering can actually make the transition harder. A calm, loving farewell gives your child the reassurance they need to start their day strong.

Principal Chat: We will have our first Principal Chat directly after drop-off in the Auditorium. Come meet our Hardy PTA & Dad's Club board members, join our PTA, fill out our volunteer survey, and connect with other families. This is a great way to learn about the many ways we can support our students and staff. There's something for everyone, and we'd love to have your support!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful school year together. I know you have many choices for an elementary school, and I am thrilled that your family has chosen Hardy!

If you haven't already, please review the FAQ sheet for helpful back-to-school information.

First Day of School Parking Registration - SDSU Garage

Due to limited family parking during the 2026–2027 school year, resulting from our whole-site modernization and parking lot construction, SDSU is offering free parking in Parking Structure 7 (P7) for Hardy families who would like to walk their child in on the first day of school.

Families must register their vehicle in advance using the link below. The free parking permit will be electronically connected to your license plate number. Please register by August 9. This registration is good from 7-9 a.m. on Monday, August 10 only.

Class Placement & Enrollment Update

Third-grade class sizes are currently running above our average. If all registered students attend, classes will be full. We'll monitor attendance during the first few weeks of school and work with the district to add a teacher if enrollment numbers hold through the third Friday, when enrollment is finalized.

We also want to share how we approach class placement. Our goal is balanced classrooms based on academics, peer relationships, and social-emotional needs. Combination classes are sometimes a necessary part of that structure, designed for independent, strong leaders, not based on academic concerns. We're unable to accept teacher requests. Thank you for trusting us to build class lists that work for all students.
