Níłchʼitsʼósí, which translates to "slender winds"
Volume 6, Issue 6
November: Níłch’its’ósí — “Slender Winds” — Has Arrived!
As we enter the month of November, known in Navajo as Níłch’its’ósí (“slender winds”), we’re approaching the end of the first semester. The excitement is building for To’Hajiilee Week, which will be celebrated from November 19th to 25th! During this week, we’ll have a variety of fun and festive activities, including: the annual Pageant Contest; a variety of vendors selling delicious food, arts, and crafts; fun contests to participate in; and the parade. Be sure to check out the flyer below for a full schedule of events. And don’t miss the highlight of the week: Turkey-in-the-Hole on November 25th! Classes who sign up will get to experience this traditional method of cooking turkeys underground. Ask your teacher if your class will be participating! We can’t wait to celebrate together during this special week!
NAVAJO WORD OF THE DAY
STUDENT CORNER
Juniors attended a field trip!
On October 28th, the Juniors took a field trip to the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. As part of their assignment, students explored exhibits on missiles, wartime history, atomic science, and solar power. It was an engaging and educational morning, followed by lunch at Golden Corral. In class, students completed follow-up questions to reflect on what they learned during their visit.
Fire Drill at TCS!
Our school held an early fire drill, and everyone knew just what to do to stay safe!
Halloween and Bullying Prevention Spirit Week!
TCS was full of Halloween spirit as students and staff joined in on Dress-Up Week! From creative Halloween costumes to Dig Pink Day and Anything but a Backpack Day, everyone showed their school pride and creativity. The week’s activities also helped promote bullying awareness in a fun and friendly way, reminding us all to support kindness and respect throughout our school community.
Our Halloween Festival Was a Hit!
Our Halloween Festival was a huge success! Students and their families had a great time playing games hosted by different classes. This event continues to be one of our biggest and most enjoyable traditions, bringing everyone together for a fun evening in costume. A big thank you to everyone who came out to support our classes and helped make the night such a success!
Thank you NAPI!
A huge thank you to the Navajo Agricultural Products Industry (NAPI) from Farmington for generously donating pumpkins to TCS! During our Fall Festival, parents had the opportunity to take home a pumpkin to enjoy and the students during the day time. We also extend our appreciation to our Bus Drivers and Custodians for picking up and delivering a full trailer load of pumpkins to our school. Your teamwork helped make the event a success for everyone!
Seniors Explore Jemez!
The seniors from Mrs. Visaria’s class took a field trip to Jemez on November 5th! Students got the chance to step into the chilly waters and experience the freezing temperatures firsthand. They explored the area, observing the different types of plant life and living organisms both in and around the water.
After their exploration, the group enjoyed a delicious lunch at Wingstop. It was a fun and educational excursion for everyone!
A Day of Pickleball Fun!
As part of Mr. Juaton’s exam, students took a field trip to a Pickleball Court at a park in Albuquerque. Each student was paired up and assigned an instructor who taught them the fundamentals and basics of the game. Excitement filled the air as students put their new skills to the test in friendly competitions against one another. To wrap up the day, the instructors and coaches played a lively match while the students cheered them on. It was a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and exercise! Students expressed their appreciation to their coaches and to Mr. Juaton for organizing such a fun and active day of pickleball. And thank the coaches and chaperones, Katrina Nez and Melissa Begay for participating.
