COVID Testing Clarification
Dear Parents/Guardians, We wanted to provide some clarification on the COVID testing we are providing here at school. In order to be tested at the Franklin Academy, you must have a pre-scheduled appointment. We cannot accommodate Drop-Ins. Due to demand, we are not providing same-day appointments. If a student presents with symptoms while at school, with parental consent, we can test them before sending them home. We understand that testing is limited in our community, but we are not replacing your healthcare provider. We will NOT TEST students who have Class A COVID Symptoms: Fever, chills Cough Loss of sense of taste and/or smell Shortness of breath We WILL TEST students who have 1 or 2 of the following Class B Symptoms: Congestion or runny nose Headache Fatigue Minor sore throat (no fever, no redness/white patches in throat as these are signs you may need to call your healthcare provider.) We WILL continue to provide “Test to Stay” for asymptomatic individuals who are required to quarantine, such as those who have traveled out of state and close-contacts.
You will need to complete both the online consent form and schedule an appointment to participate in testing.
Best,
Teresa

Welcome to another edition of The Reading Corner!
My name is Jennifer Snyder and many of you know me as the Preschool-4th Grade music teacher, but I am also the Robin Hall librarian. You can learn more about how I became a music teacher on my bio page of the school website.
The big question is, how did I become the Robin Hall librarian? Surprisingly, it was by chance! I worked with the librarian who came before me, helping to reshelve books and get new books ready for circulation. When she retired, I was able to step in as the new librarian, and I’ve been doing it for around 7 years, though the details get a bit hazy when you’ve been teaching at the Franklin Academy for 19 years!
I grew up in Mount Vernon, Washington. As an only child I didn’t have any siblings, but we had many stray cats, an occasional dog and two parakeets. I was fortunate to have one of my grandmas live next door to me, so she was just a hop, skip and a jump away. She taught high school English among other subjects, and ended her teaching career as a preschool teacher. When I was little I didn’t go to preschool, I went to my grandma’s house! I have her to thank in large part for my love of reading and my love of kids! One of my favorite memories was reading Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books with her. During the summertime, my family took road trips to places like Montana, California or Nevada. While we were driving, my nose was often stuck inside a book. My parents would say, “Jennifer, put that book down and look around you!”
I have a son, Samuel, who is in 6th grade at The Franklin Academy and my husband Karl is a foster care licensor. We have two black cats-Chloe, age 16, and Cosmo, age 5. Chloe loves to eat and snuggle, and Cosmo loves getting into trouble. When I am not at school I like to play in my garden, go for walks, and cook yummy food. Of course I also like to read! Nowadays I read mostly children’s literature in my quest to provide and recommend quality books to our young Franklin Academy students.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Snyder

Mrs. Ho shared this:
Mrs. Pickerill's Pre-Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Pickerill shared this:
"Last week we had a great time meeting our Spanish teacher, Senora Segebart. She read a story about Skippyjon Jones and taught us some new Spanish words from the story.
We also talked about some of our favorite things so far that we liked to do at school.
“The first week of school I liked…”
Dallas: “playing with the Paw Patrol toys.”
Dane: “playing with the doll houses.”
Dillon: “playing with the dinosaurs.”
Finley: “playing outside on the dome.”
Gurnoor: “playing with the magnet tiles.”
Lachlan: “playing with the play doh and dinosaurs.”
Maya: “playing outside on the playground.”
Norah: “building with the magnet tiles.”
Quorra: “playing with the doll houses.”
Mrs. Killian's Preschool Class
Mrs. Killian shared this:
"We have completed our first week of preschool and the kids have grown so much. Thank you for sharing them with us. Our focus for the first few weeks is on learning routines and helping the kids get to know each other. In class we have been learning how to rotate through centers. Each center in our class has a play-based emphasis on learning needed preschool skills."
Writing Center
Our writing center has coloring pages, stickers, and scissors. Fine-motor development is an important part of preschool, and helps develop muscles needed to write.
Blocks
Blocks teach important math skills involving moving shapes, and balancing objects. Preschoolers learn to negotiate with each other as they build.
Library
The library center is a class favorite. The preschoolers are learning about print concepts, and gaining literacy skills.
Science Center
We currently have bugs at our science center. The preschoolers are learning to sort bugs based on attributes.
Sensory Bin
All preschoolers love to dig and explore in a sensory bin, and ours currently has paper from the shredder, and many pom poms. The students enjoy using tweezers to sort out items. This teaches classification skills, and works on fine motor development, along with social skills.
Mrs. Owen's Pre-Kindergarten Class
My weekly highlight was:
Cana "going to recess"
Dafni "dancing with friends"
Ella "playing with Parker and Lilly"
Espen "doing recess"

Mrs. Rail's Kindergarten Class
"This is one AWESOME group of kiddos! They have done an amazing job transitioning into kindergarten! I can already tell that this is going to be a great year!
This week we have learned:
*classroom routines
*to work as a team
*to be kind to our classmates
*to work semi-independently
*to encourage others
*to walk like silent ninjas
*that we are authors!
*to think outside the box
*that we are hard workers
We have also been reviewing our ABCs and 123s, practicing our handwriting, reading lots of books, working hard during writers' workshops, and discovering how Lego was invented and why the ocean is salty.
We also got to go to some of our specialty classes: music, Spanish, and library (books are due Tuesdays). Next week we will add PE and chapel to our rotation and art the following week."
Mrs. Dizon's Kindergarten Class
