Cedar Grove Friday Flash
September 4, 2026
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
As we wrap up our second week of school, it's been wonderful to see students settling into routines, making new friends, and engaging in learning!! This year, our Back to School Night for grades 1-5 will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. This year there will be one session in a resource fair type format, where you will have the opportunity to visit classroom teachers and engage in various activities. Back to School Night slides containing information about curriculum, homework, teacher contact information etc. will be sent out by homeroom teachers prior to Back to School Night. Additionally, we will have tables set-up in our cafeteria where you can learn more about our math curriculum and reading curriculum, Parent Vue, Parent Square, School Payments, Instrumental Music, Fourth and Fifth Grade Chorus, How to Check out a Home Device, School Counseling, and our PTA. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday. Parking will be available in our front parking lot as well as on our blacktop.
Saturday School begins September 26 at various locations, including Clarksburg High School! Students can explore exciting courses such as robotics, coding, or focus on strengthening their math and reading skills. It's a great opportunity for enrichment and academic support. See the flyer HERE for more information and registration details.
Fan Friday will start on Friday, September 11 and will last for 10 weeks, ending on November 20. Fan Friday is designed to bring everyone together as a team, to have fun, and to show good sportsmanship. Students can wear any kind of sports jersey every Friday (football, baseball, soccer, etc.). If students don't have a sports shirt, they may make one from an old T-shirt as long as they get permission from their parents. Please contact Mr. Jansson if you have any questions or need any more details.
As a reminder, there is no school on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday. Have a wonderful weekend.

Annual Notice for Directory Information and Student Privacy
Schools provide directory information for public listings such as honor roll, awards, and other notices in the newspaper or on the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) website. A student’s name, address, and telephone number may also be released to organizations of any combination of parents, teachers, and students of a school. Unless you tell them not to, schools can release the information without your prior consent. Directory Information includes the following items: student’s and/or parent’s name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number; student’s date of birth; major field of study; grade level; participation in officially recognized activities and sports; degrees and awards received (including honor roll); most recent school attended; dates of attendance; photograph, or other likeness; the weight and height of members of athletic teams; and other similar information.
If you do not want the school to release your directory information, complete the information and return this notice to your child's homeroom teacher by September 12, 2024. Additional copies of this notice can be found on the MCPS website, and are available in Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Amharic, and Portuguese. This form must be completed every year.
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
Here is your updated Media Monthly. We have started the media A/B week schedule and I'm thrilled that I can see grades K-5 once a week this year. I'll be able to fit in more digital literacy lessons, more lessons that align with the content your students are learning in your class, and more literature appreciation! This also means they get to check out books more often, so please help your students remember their media books every week! As a reminder, today is the last day I will accept 4th grade daily news applications. I have resent invitations to the Virtual Media Center for our Kindergartners and our new students. Please have them log into their student account and accept the invitation to be part of this site or, if your student did not receive an invitation, please contact me and I will send out the invitation for your student. Now that we're in full swing, we are actively looking for media volunteers. Please hit up our volunteer signup. Finally, I hope to see you all at Back to School Night! We're hosting a librarian from the Montgomery County Public Library to help you create library accounts for your students. The MCPL has an amazing array of free resources that your student can access with a library card! In addition, we plan to help set up ParentVue and ParentSquare accounts, not to mention help you receive a home use device if you need one. Have a wonderful long weekend!
