From Spring to Summer?
With the forecast expecting temperatures in the mid-70's by the end of the week, it certainly has been a roller coaster of a ride as far as weather is concerned. It can be challenging to know how to dress when there are wide fluxuations from day to day (or even within the same day). Here are a few suggestions for students:
* Dress in layers (like a sweatshirt over a t-shirt)
* Boots may still be needed for recess (it's muddy out there)
* An extra pair of socks (in case feet get wet)
We are always accepting donations of boots and/or sneakers that your student may have outgrown for the benefit of students in need. Also, if there are any coats and/or snowpants from school (marked RVS) that may have been borrowed over the winter please return them to school. Thanks!
Student tardy or absent? Let Tina know. (802) 262-1506

News from Kindergarten
In kindergarten we are continuing work on breaking the numbers whole numbers 5 through 10 into parts. We then use the parts to write addition equations. We will continue that for another week. Simultaneously we are continuing to learn to have our brains see a number of objects on a 10 frame in just a few seconds and recognize what number it is. In Literacy the students are practicing writing the sounds they hear to explain their pictures. They are doing a great job at this phonics spelling! We will work on adding spaces now. We learned about the digraph 'wh' and the "am" word family. They are getting good at blending sounds so we will start practicing more segmenting sounds in words now. We ended the week with a great day in the Forest!
Kindergarten -- Katie Swick
News from Grades 1/2
We are switching gears in Literacy. We just finished a great unit on Nonfiction reading and writing, and will now return our focus back to fiction and deepening our comprehension skills beyond the text. We will focus on retelling / summarizing and ensuring that we are retelling events in order, focusing on the most important events in the story, while also incorporating the problem(s) and solution. We will then begin to dig into determining the important lesson the author is trying to teach us.
1st/2nd -- Karie DeCasas
News from Grades 3/4
For literacy in the 3rd and 4th grade classroom, we have been continuing our work with book clubs, practicing speaking and listening skills in the process. We are midway through our books, and we have been able to discuss the social issues presented in those texts more confidently. We have a running chart of all of the issues and how the characters have tried to overcome them by closely monitoring their interactions. We have also started new WIN groups in response to all of the growth we've seen in our word study program.
3rd/4th -- Danny Velez
News from Music
Happy Spring RVS Community!
I am excited to invite you all to join us in the Roxbury Town Hall for our annual General Music Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 23rd at 6pm. Our theme this year is Music from the Movie’s. We have been preparing for this performance since January and I know a lot of students are very excited to share all their hard work with their loved ones.
In addition to preparing for our concert we have been developing our musical knowledge and skills. In kindergarten we have been learning about Instruments in the Orchestra, we have learned all about the various instruments in the brass family, we are currently learning about the woodwind family. In 1/2 grade we have spent a great deal of time learning to recognize basic musical rhythms and students have been learning how to identify notes on the treble clef. In 3/4th grade we have been learning and developing our Recorder skills as a whole class this year. They have enjoyed playing along with educational play along videos such as the “G” Note Rap, Hot Cross Bun’s Rap and many more. At this point we have selected our song that we will perform as a class on recorder, the work that all have put into recorder this year has been so extraordinary. I look forward to sharing all this with you in person at our Spring Concert!
Thanks,
RVS Music Educator
Community Circle Time
We've created opportunities for 4th grade students from RVS to meet 4th grade students from UES and work with students from MSMS on intentional ways to make connections before joining together at the middle school.
Team Building
Each 4th grade student from RVS has another 4th grade buddy from UES as well as a mentor from MSMS.
Making Connections
Activities that focus on shared connections and experiences are part of the work we do as students get to know one another before they go to MSMS.
Bee of the Week!
Congratulations are in order for Charlie for being our "Bee of the Week"! Charlie has been recognized for working hard, making good choices, and for being a good friend. Way to go, Charlie!

REMINDER -- Caregivers & Interview Committee
MRPS welcomes and encourages caregivers to be part of our hiring process as we consider adding new members to our staff. In the event we have the need to add staff for our 2023-2024 school year at Roxbury Village School, we are asking caregivers to consider being part of our hiring process.
We ask anyone on a hiring committee to sign a confidentiality agreement regarding the entire process (to protect the privacy of all applicants), carefully consider qualified applications, and be on the interview committee by asking questions and providing feedback both written and orally about each candidate to a school administrator.
This is a volunteer position, yet the role is critical as we endeavor to bring the best possible staff to Roxbury Village School. If you are willing to add your name to potential Caregiver members, please email Beth Kellogg at bethkellogg@mpsvt.org using the subject heading "Screening Committee".
