ESPORTS

The Idaho esports competition is officially underway! We have 4 teams playing for Blackfoot High School: two Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teams, Valorant, and an Overwatch team. We will be playing high schools all over Idaho every week Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have about 20 students who are a part of esports this year. And there is only talk for more games to be adopted within the Idaho Esports League. One day, esports might be elevated to the same level as other traditional sports, but in the meantime, our teams are busy practicing and playing to represent BHS.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

Winter sports is coming to an end but not without fun things happening first!

Our Fillies Dance team competed at Districts and placed in three of their routines taking them to State to compete with those three dances. They competed at state with Dance, Pom and Hip Hop routines. The Fillies did an amazing job and danced their hearts out. They took 4th place overall at State.

Our cheerleaders also competed at Districts and were able to sweep the competition, taking first in all three routines and overall District Champions. Two weeks later they headed to State in Boise to defend their 1st state title they received last year. They were named Academic State Champions with a combined GPA of 3.814. Coach Christa Stufflebeam was named Coach of the Year. They received 1st place in Show, 1st place in Sideline, and 2nd in Pom. Giving them 2nd place overall.

Kylan Guerra took 2nd place, Sam Smith 4th, Tanner Ellis 5th, Porter Dansie 5th, Jett Hone 6th, Ty Adams 6th, Dawandey Dilus 6th. The team as a whole was able to secure the 3rd place trophy.

Boys Basketball was the last of the winter sports teams to compete at Districts. They fought a hard battle and were able to beat the competitors and take second at Districts this year. They will travel to Boise on February 28th to prepare for their State competition that weekend. Watch next month's newsletter for updates on the competition.

We are now heading into our Spring sports. We are hoping the weather will cooperate with us while we compete on our new state of the art baseball and softball fields. As well as at our track meets and tennis matches. If you drive past the football field you will see some construction happening. Part of that will be a new track so next year we will be able to hold track meets here again. We are so excited for that!

Speaking of spring sports we have had a couple seniors sign their letter of intent to further their education while playing softball. We had Quincy Cronquist sign to College of Idaho, and Kaili Verlanic sign to Yakima Valley Community College in Washington.

We are so proud of the hard work and dedication our student athletes have. Thank you to all of our student athletes and to the parents/guardians and family members that have helped make them who they are.

As always if you would like to come out and watch these great athletes follow us on Facebook or click on the link below for the schedule.
