The Weekly Buzz
From Palmer River Elementary School
May 22, 2026
Dear PRES Community,
What a great week at PRES as we head into a long weekend with no school on Monday!
This week, our fourth grade students welcomed visitors from the Tomaquag Museum in Exeter, RI. Through this engaging program, students learned about Native perspectives on the culture and history of our area. The presentation was informative, interactive, and thoroughly enjoyed by our students.
Our fourth graders also continued their visits to the Palmer River, where they collected water samples and studied the health of the river by identifying and cataloging macroinvertebrates found in the water. We are so grateful to the many people and organizations who support this meaningful learning experience, including Friends of the Palmer River and Katy Wilson. Students had a wonderful time while learning more about this very special natural resource in our community.
Next week will bring even more exciting learning opportunities both in school and off campus. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday and hope you all enjoy a relaxing and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal & Mrs. Cassey Monte, Assistant Principal

Classroom Visits to Prepare for Fall
In the coming weeks, as we prepare students for the end of the school year, students will visit the next grade level classrooms to see the learning spaces, meet the teachers, and begin preparing for the transition to a new grade. We find that these visits help students feel supported, comfortable, and excited about the start of school in September.

Nurse's Buzz 🐝
📋 Physicals Needed for 4th Graders
This is a quick reminder for families of our 4th-grade students: We are still missing over half of the required physicals needed for your child to transition smoothly into middle school next year.
These physicals are essential to ensure students are healthy and ready for the demands of middle school, including sports. Please submit your child’s physical exam form as soon as possible via email or by dropping it off at the nurse's office.
Managing Seasonal Allergies at School 🌼
Spring is finally here, and while we love seeing the flowers bloom and enjoying the warmer weather, it also means that seasonal allergies may start bothering some of our students. We want to make sure your child feels comfortable and can focus on learning during the school day. Here are a few tips to help manage those pesky allergies and keep the school experience enjoyable for everyone!
🤧 What Are Seasonal Allergies?
Seasonal allergies are caused by the immune system overreacting to pollen from trees, grass, and weeds. Common symptoms include:
Sneezing
Runny or stuffy nose
Itchy, watery eyes
Coughing or throat irritation
Fatigue from poor sleep
How You Can Help
Speak with your child’s healthcare provider
Ask about safe allergy medications and whether daily use during peak allergy seasons might help.Update the nurse
If your child takes allergy medication during the school day, please bring in a Medication Authorization Form signed by you and your child’s doctor. We can store and administer medication here in the health office. Medication must be brought in by a parent or guardian, not the student.FYI- Many antihistamines, like Zyrtec and Claritin, take a few hours to reach peak effectiveness. Giving them at night helps control morning symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, and coughing
Encourage good hygiene
Remind your child to wash their hands and face after playing outside to remove pollen.
When to Keep Your Child Home
If symptoms are accompanied by fever, persistent cough, or sore throat, it might be more than just allergies. Please monitor symptoms and consult your pediatrician when in doubt. If you have any questions or concerns about seasonal allergies, feel free to contact me.
Wishing you a healthy, happy spring!Elizabeth Ferreira, RN
Grade 4: Music Selection
As Beckwith Middle School begins planning for next school year, they need to know your child’s preference for a music elective. Students in Grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 may choose to participate in Band, Chorus, or General Music.
Please click Here to indicate your child’s preferred elective for the 2026–2027 school year. Please note that students who select Band are required to purchase or rent an instrument.
For scheduling purposes, the selected elective is considered a one-year commitment.
