A Message from Ms. Osmerg
Greetings #AHE-mazing Jaguar Families!
I hope you are staying warm! I am happy to be back in school with our Jaguars and staff! While the time away from our building last week was unexpected, we hope your child was able to engage in meaningful learning activities at home. We welcomed the day returning to our routines and structure.
Last semester, I worked to streamline our school newsletter to make it more family-friendly. I hope you have noticed the difference, and I will continue to work on it. This newsletter has a lot of important information, so thank you for taking the time to read it!
In this newsletter, you will find information about the Kids Heart Challenge! If at least 50% of our school registers online, both Coach Andrews and I have agreed to get silly stringed!
Thank you for your flexibility with Strategies Nights. I have attached our Strategies Presentations so that you are able to view any of the strategies you would like to see! Embedded in the presentation document is a QR code to seek feedback on the presentation format. Should you have any difficulties with a link, please contact your child's teacher.
Finally, I believe in our school motto - Together, We Make a Difference! I am seeking input on what parental involvement means to you to create additional or new opportunities for ALL families to feel involved. Please scan the QR code to the side and take 3 minutes to fill out the form!
Thank you!
Jill Osmerg

Sweetheart Dance:
This year's dance will be on February 8th from 5-8pm in the cafeteria. Get your tickets early as we sold out the last couple of years. Each student can bring ONE adult sweetheart of their choice.
Tickets are $30 and that gives each student plus the adult of their choice entry to the dance and a dinner buffet. The night will be full of fun, food and dancing! Don't miss this great opportunity to spend a fun evening with your students. Additional student tickets will be available for $10 for any adult bringing more than one child. You must have a combo $30 ticket to purchase this.

Spring Individual/Class Picture Day
Picture Day is coming on February 13, 2025! For more information about Picture Day, visit https://schools.lifetouch.com/for-your-families/
Valentines Cards/Treats
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours. We are allowing appropriate store-bought items to be shared. All items will need to be approved prior to the exchange. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything not in its original sealed package and please be reminded that some students in your child’s class may have specific allergies. Your child’s teacher will follow up with more information.
Pre-K Registration Now Open
The Lottery Application for the 2025-2026 Pre-Kindergarten Lottery application is now open and will close at 11:59 pm on March 5, 2025. Parents may ONLY register for Georgia’s Pre-K classes through the lottery application process. You may access the application through the link Fulton County Schools - Pre-K Lottery Pre-Registration Form or scan the QR code from the flyer on today’s newsletter.
Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition
This year Abbotts Hill students will have the opportunity to participate in the annual Young Georgia Author’s Writing Competition sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. The purpose of this competition is to encourage our students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing. Your child will submit an original piece of writing that they have created on their own, by January 31 to Ms. Henn. There will be one winner from each grade. Each winner will have their writing judged at the district level. See the attachment below to learn more about the competition. I hope you encourage your child to participate in this amazing opportunity and showcase their writing talents.

ACCESS Testing - ESOL Students
Each year, students in English learner programs take the ACCESS for ELLs language proficiency test. The test measures academic English language proficiency for students learning English in our school and throughout our state.
What is the purpose of ACCESS for ELLs?
ACCESS for ELLs is a standards-based, criterion-referenced English language proficiency test designed to measure English learners’ social and academic proficiency in English. It assesses social and instructional English as well as the language associated with language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies within the school context across the four language domains.
Who takes ACCESS for ELLs?
ACCESS for ELLs is administered annually to all English learners in Georgia.
When is ACCESS for ELLs given?
The district testing window is January 13 – February 25. Abbotts Hill will start testing January 20th.
