WEEKLY HAWK
April 6-10, 2026
Message from Mrs. Lloyd
Hello Homestead Families,
This week we will begin CMAS testing for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Families, please check your email for information regarding testing - it was sent on Friday morning. It is very important that students arrive on time during testing. Additionally, please remind students that have phones or watches that they will be out of the testing room for the duration of testing (this is not different than during the school day and kids have been doing well with this rule).
We will also host our much anticipated Talent Show! The rehearsal for students will be on Wednesday after school. Performance for the school will be Friday afternoon with an evening performance for the community at 6:00pm. I can't wait to see all of the performances and to bring community together for this event. There is no charge for entry into the Talent Show - I hope to see you there!
First grade engaged in a super fun experiment with our district STEM team. They integrated Literacy and Science. After reading an HMH variation of Three Little Pigs, they built houses as teams. Later in the week, the district STEM team came to blow the houses down with leaf blowers! What a fun and memorable way to learn!
I want to thank everyone who attended our first Coffee with the Principal. It was a great opportunity to sit with community and discuss what is on your minds. We will certainly have more of these in the future - feel free to drop in to our next one if you couldn't make it. I truly love hearing from the community and look forward to continuing to build relationships and connections with families.
Please keep scrolling this week - there are lots of new events and messages below!
Take care,
Katie

Field Day
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you that this year's field day will feature an inflatable bounce course and inflatable dry slide as one of the activity stations for the students. To ensure the safety of all participants, it is necessary for each student to have a waiver completed, including their name and your signature, to participate in the bounce course.
Please note that if I do not receive the signed waiver, your child will be unable to participate in this station during field day. The waiver has been provided in your child's Friday folder (and attached below as well). Kindly ensure that your child returns the completed waiver to their classroom teacher, who will then forward it to me.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards,
Ms. Brownell
PE Teacher
Calling All Volunteers for Our Disney-Themed Field Day! 🏰✨
Step right up and get ready to experience the magic! This year, we’re bringing the wonder of Disney to life for our Field Day, and I’d love you to be part of it. If you enjoy a little fun, a lot of laughter, and helping create unforgettable moments for our students, this is the perfect opportunity for you!
Our amazing 5th graders will be leading and running the stations, but they’ll need the support and guidance of enthusiastic adults to help everything run smoothly and keep the magic going strong. If you’re interested, please take a moment to fill out the form below and join us in making this a truly memorable day for our Homestead Hawks!
I’ll be hosting a brief pre-Field Day meeting early May to go over all the details, and I’ll keep you updated as we get closer to the big event. I will offer a morning shift and an afternoon shift or if you are able to do the whole day, that would be great as well.
Mark your calendars:

Congratulations!
Congratulations to these seven students whose artwork was selected for display in the West Area Cherry Creek School District Art Show!
The reception is on Friday, April 17th, from 4:30-6:30 pm at Cherry Creek High School.
5th: Lane W. And Drew N.
4th: Grace G.
3rd: Jack H.
2nd: Hayes H.
1st: Heidi N.
K: Blake S.
A note about 3-D artwork display and selections for district art shows:
It is that time of year when many students are working in three dimensions. Display space is significantly limited, which means not every student’s 3-D artwork will be shown. In addition, we are celebrating some students who have work in the district art show. Your child might feel disappointed if their work is not on display. This is an opportunity to help your child learn how to process disappointment. Your child is a wonderful artist and perhaps their artwork will be selected in the future.
From the NSS (GT) Department
Join us for an informative NSS (GT) Parent Meeting at Homestead Elementary on Tuesday, April 21st from 5:00–6:00 PM, hosted by Mr. Hoopes and Mrs. Key. During this session, we will share an overview of gifted services, including the identification process, the range of support and differentiated learning opportunities offered, and what families can expect throughout the year. Our goal is to make this time helpful and supportive, so we’ll also provide space for your questions and conversation. We look forward to partnering with you and hope to see you there!
From the Library......

Hawks Nest Summer Camp
Dear Homestead community,
We have the chance to keep plastic film out of landfills! This spring during Earth Month, our school is hosting a Ridwell recycling drive. You’re invited to bring your used plastic film (ziptop bags, grocery bags, bubble wrap, and lots more) to school from April 15 to April 22 and Ridwell will make sure it stays out of landfills. Start collecting plastic film now so you have a bunch to bring during the drive!
This info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples. All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!
Curious about Ridwell at-home recycling pickup? They collect hundreds of common household items you can’t recycle curbside, like plastic food packaging, lightbulbs, clothes, Styrofoam, and more. You can help the school earn rewards if you sign up for a household membership by May 22. We’ll earn pickup of the school’s plastic film for the entire ‘26/’27 school year when 10 new members sign up.
To get students excited, there will be a grade-level competition at our school. The grade level with the most plastic film collected during that week will earn an extra recess and an ice cream treat! Each grade will collect as much plastic film as possible. The grade level that has the most film (determined by weight) will be the winner!
Thank you!
From,
Your Student Council

ATTENTION: All Volunteers at Homestead
Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.
If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. To access the form, click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT or scan the QR code. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a badge printed from our Raptor system or a District ID.
We want to thank you in advance for your support of our schools and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Homestead main office at 720.554.3700.
