Welcome Back Updates for Families
July, 2026
Dr. Patrick Hardy - Principal
Dear Hampshire Students and Families,
We are proud of who we are at Hampshire High School, and I am honored to serve as principal. Hampshire is a great school because of our students, our families, our staff, and our shared commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I am writing to provide advance notice of a few important initiatives we believe will make our school even better!
This fall, we will place a renewed focus on three areas that directly impact our school climate and our ability to provide the best possible educational experience for every student.
Improving Attendance and Reducing Tardiness
Last school year, can you believe our school recorded more than 32,000 tardies? One of our greatest challenges was students arriving late to 1st period. We know that every minute of instruction matters. When students are on time for classes, they are more prepared and more connected, and we have fewer interruptions.
This year, we are asking all students and families to make punctuality a priority for school arrivals, and our team will work more diligently to address tardiness throughout the day. We know we will have to pay special attention to students who are chronically tardy throughout the day and to multiple classes. I sincerely believe that being on time is more than a school expectation—it is a habit that prepares students for college, their careers, and life.
Student Identification Checks Upon Entry
Two years ago, when I first arrived at Hampshire High School, we surveyed our parents and staff regarding school safety. More than 90 percent of respondents supported checking student identification upon entry to the building. The message was clear: safety is paramount.
Beginning this year, we will implement student ID checks at the building entry. This means students will need to carry their school identification cards daily and be prepared to present them when entering school.
While this process may take some adjustment, it is an important step in strengthening the security of our campus and ensuring that everyone in our building belongs here.
Launching the Yondr Pouch Initiative
In alignment with District 300 policy, we will also implement the Yondr Pouch Initiative to address the growing challenge of excessive cellphone use and increasing dependency on personal electronic devices during the school day.
Research and our own experiences indicate that constant access to cell phones, in particular, can negatively affect attention, learning, relationships, and overall well-being. The Yondr program is designed to help students focus on instruction, engage with one another, and fully participate in the Hampshire experience.
The district's goal is not to punish students or eliminate technology. Rather, it is to create an environment where students can be more present, more connected, and more engaged in learning and in one another. More information to come on this one…stay tuned.
It May Feel Different—And That's Okay
As we address these three important climate initiatives, I want to be honest: at first, school may feel different. It may feel “tighter” or more structured.
That is intentional, necessary, and possible!
Implementation of all three will not occur at once, but will definitely happen within the first few weeks of school. Strong schools establish clear expectations, consistent routines, and safe, structured environments that allow students and staff to thrive. Sometimes improvement requires us to embrace new habits and new ways of doing things. The start of the school year is an opportunity for a fresh beginning. By arriving on time, carrying identification daily, and embracing a more focused learning environment, we will continue fostering a school climate where every learner can succeed.
I believe in our students. I believe in our families. I also believe in Hampshire High School. I thank you in advance for your partnership, support, and commitment to making Hampshire High School an even better place for all.
With appreciation and optimism,
Dr. Patrick Hardy

Jamee Kenney - Assistant Principal of Climate and Culture
Dear Hampshire High School Families,
Welcome back to another incredible school year! I hope you all had a restful, safe, and rejuvenating summer break.
While many of you already know me from my previous role as HHS Dean of Students, I am absolutely thrilled to connect with you this year in a new capacity. This school year, I am stepping into the role of your Assistant Principal of Climate and Culture. Prior to my time at HHS, I spent 18 years in education as a teacher, an assistant principal, a coordinator of summer programming, and a principal. I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing my expertise to the HHS community, and I am looking forward to continuing to support students and families in this new role!
My time as dean here at HHS allowed me to build wonderful relationships with our students, staff, and families. In this new role, my primary focus is to build upon that foundation to strengthen systems that ensure that Hampshire High School is a place where every single student feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.
Whether you are a returning student, a freshman walking through our doors for the first time, a parent, or a member of our community, please know that my door is always open to you. I welcome your ideas, your feedback, and your collaboration as we work to make this school year our best one yet.
Thank you for your continued support of Hampshire High School. Let’s bring our best energy, support one another, and make this a phenomenal year!
Welcome back, Whips!

Andrew Jones Marquez - Dean of Students
Dear Hampshire High School Families,
Welcome to a new school year! My name is Drew Jones Marquez, and I'm excited to begin my second year serving as one of the Deans of Students at HHS.
As I reflect on my first year, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to get to know so many of our students and families. One of the greatest privileges of this role has been building authentic relationships with students, celebrating their successes, helping them navigate challenges, and partnering with families to support their growth. Hampshire is a special community, and I appreciate the trust you've placed in our team.
At HHS, we believe every student deserves to feel safe, valued, respected, and connected. Our Climate and Culture Team is committed to creating a school environment where students can learn, grow, and belong. While accountability is an important part of our work, we also know that the strongest schools are built on meaningful relationships, open communication, and a shared commitment to helping every student succeed.
This summer, I had the opportunity to continue growing professionally as one of District 300's Trainers of Trainers for restorative practices and through my doctoral research at the University of Illinois, where I study how school leaders can better support children and youth in foster care. Those experiences have only strengthened my belief that every student has unique strengths and a story worth knowing. When schools and families work together, students are empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Whether your child is entering HHS for the first time or returning for another year, please know that we are here to support them every step of the way. We value your partnership and encourage you to reach out whenever you have questions, concerns, or simply want to celebrate something wonderful your student has accomplished.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children each day. It is an honor to serve the Hampshire High School community, and I look forward to another year of learning, growth, and success together.
Go Whip-Purs!
Warmly,
Drew Jones Marquez, M.A.Ed., CAS

Welcome New Leaders
Andra Reitz - Dean of Students
Dear Hampshire High School Families and Staff,
My name is Andra Reitz and I am incredibly excited to introduce myself as one of the new Deans of Students. It is an honor to join the Whip-Pur community, and I look forward to working closely with our students, families, and staff to support a positive, safe, and thriving school environment.
My journey in education has given me a deep appreciation for student growth at every stage. Before stepping into this leadership role, I spent years in the classroom teaching. These experiences taught me the value of building strong relationships, fostering mutual respect, and meeting students where they are. I am eager to bring that same student-centered approach to Hampshire High School.
To share a bit about my background, I earned my bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and went on to complete my master's degree at Indiana University.
When I’m not at school, I’m usually enjoying married life! My husband and I tied the knot this past October 2025, and our household is kept lively by our sweet golden retriever, Nala.
I am anticipating a fantastic year of growth, learning, and school spirit. My door is always open to students and families—please stop by and say hello!
Warmly,
Andra Reitz

First Day of School - Tuesday, August 11th
We are excited to welcome everyone back for the first day of school on August 11, 2026! It is essential that all students attend as we kick off the new academic year with a full day of classes. This is an excellent opportunity for students to get off to a strong start, meet their teachers, staff, leaders, and reconnect with friends.
Please ensure that students arrive on time, ready to engage and participate in a productive and exciting day. Let's start this year on the right foot and make it one of the best yet! As a reminder, our regular school day begins precisely at 7:30 am. For your reference, our bell schedules and late start dates can be found at High School Bell Schedule.
We’re looking forward to welcoming all students back for the first day of school! To ensure a strong and connected start, we’ll run a modified schedule on August 11th designed to help students meet school leaders, review important information, and become familiar with expectations for the year. It is essential that all students attend, including those who would normally have a late start, as the day will set the tone for a successful year. A copy of the schedule is included for your reference. We can’t wait to see everyone and kick off the year together!

Specific details regarding dress will be presented to students during the first week of school by their physical education teachers.
PE shirts and locks (not shorts) will be distributed during the second week of school and then charged to your students' PushCoin account. Requirements for P.E. shorts will be published as part of each school's 2026-27 P.E. syllabus.
Meal Prices and Account Funding
Meal Prices:
Meal service for the 2026/2027 school year is available for all our students. Breakfast is $2.00, and lunch is available at $3.55. Applications for free or reduced-price meals can be found on the D300 Parent webpage. A quick link to the online applications are available on the Food Service webpage as well. Ala carte sales will be returning to middle and high schools by the second week of school. Menus for all grade levels will be available by Friday, August 1, on the NutriSlice webpage. Additional information for families can be found in the quick links on the Food Service webpage and the Meal Charge Policy.
Meal Account Funding:
Payments to fund meal accounts should be made through PushCoin. Over time, we will be working to eliminate cash collections at the point of service. Cash payments up to $20 may be accepted at the point of service, but change will not be given. Any change will be applied to the student's meal account for future purchases. Parents who make a duplicate payment or need to move funds between students should be assured that those changes can be corrected internally by contacting Meals@d300.org.
