Oakhurst Weekly
🚨 QUICK SHEET CALENDAR CORRECTION 🚨
Most Quicksheets that went home with you at Meet & Greet or on the first day of school do not have CSD's Fall Break listed. We do, indeed, have a fall break September 21 - 25. 💛
OAKHURST SLT ELECTIONS THIS FALL
Oakhurst's School Leadership Team (SLT) is an important crew that is created and guided by CSD's charter. SLT members - including administrative, staff, parent and community representatives - operate as a governing body with the purpose of maximizing school-level decisions. Parent representatives are an elected position and serve two-year terms. There will be two open parent seats this Fall; we will hold an election August 26th-September 2nd to fill those positions.
The most important requirement of an SLT member is to have an honest desire to contribute to the educational experience and learning of all children at Oakhurst Elementary. We hope you will consider being a part of this very important work! Those interested should complete this form along with a short bio to add to our voting form. This form and the bio will be due on August 25th. Thank you for your support!
Feel free to contact any of our current parent representatives with questions or for further information: (Parent)- Jessica Brooks jessica.brooks@csdecatur.net, (Parent) - Tom Chen thomas.chen@csdecatur.net
STAR TESTING NEXT WEEK
During the week of August 10 through August 14, we will be administering the STAR Math (K-2), STAR Early Literacy (K-2), and STAR Reading (2nd grade) tests. STAR is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. Students take the STAR tests in the fall, winter, and spring. By taking it 3 times a year, teachers and parents are able to see how their student is growing in the areas of reading and math throughout the school year. We will use this data to help us make informed instructional decisions for our students. The tests will be administered by classroom teachers and proctors in their classrooms. STAR family reports will be shared through Thursday communication folders following the conclusion of testing.
If you have any questions please reach out to our Instructional Coach, Gail Hardwick.

TEACHER WISH LISTS
Oakhurst Elementary is committed to ensuring every classroom is stocked and ready for students and teachers to have what they need to be engaged and successful. We do this by using our allocated state and local funding to fulfill classroom needs. Funding covers essential classroom supplies, any specialized materials needed for educational programming in different grade levels/subjects, individual or team requests for specific supplies, professional learning and general operating costs.
In addition to this, some staff at Oakhurst have customarily shared supply wish lists with families via email or online. Please know that these are optional and individualized by the staff member. Wish lists should not be interpreted as an indication that classrooms at Oakhurst or our programming lack supplies or funding. Instead, the lists reflect individual preferences for extra items. Any purchases made from these lists are considered gifts to staff and must follow state guidance and Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) rules around gift-giving to public employees, including monetary limits.
If you have any questions about how supplies are funded or how you can support our classrooms, please contact Principal Triplett.

REQUIRED SURVEY FOR YOU TO COMPLETE: IN YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER
To ensure all students in City Schools of Decatur receive the resources and support they need, the Georgia Department of Education requires districts to collect the Migrant Education Program (MEP) Occupational Survey.
- Purpose: This brief survey helps identify students who may qualify for extra educational programs and supplemental support services.
- One Form Per Household: To make this process quick and simple for families, you can list all of your enrolled CSD students on a single form—there is no need to fill out a separate form for each child or school!
APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL
New State Law: Personal Electronic Devices
Students will not be allowed to use personal electronic devices during school, such as cell phones and smart watches, starting this school year. Devices brought to school must be kept in backpacks.
