Hello Vivian Banks Families!

We had a great week celebrating Red Ribbon Week! We had dress up days for our students Tuesday-Friday

Tie die Tuesday: Too bright to get twisted! Wear tie die shirts. Message: Keep your future bright and your mind out of the dark!

Wednesday: Don't Hair-ass me drugs! Crazy hair day! Message: Hair today, clear mind tomorrow. Show drugs you won't let it tangle you up!

Thursday: Team up against the bad stuff: Wear sports jerseys. Message: Victory takes teamwork. We are benching drugs for good!

Friday: Character Above Everything: Wear a costume based on a character from a book for a parade! Message: Real Heroes stay true to themselves and stay drug free!

We had an engaging assembly with Pala Social services on Monday with giftbags given out to all students.

On Friday, Indian Health came and did an interactive hands on assembly where we talked about keeping our bodies healthy.

We finished off our week with a special tradition at Vivian Banks. Students went to each class to 'trick or treat' special items such as pencils, glow in the dark rings and other trinkets.

Our students had the option of purchasing Halloween grams for their friends and classmates and these were delivered as well.

On Sunday, we will fall back. Please make sure to set your clocks back one hour. This coming week, please come join us at Eagle Force for a fun hands on after school activity making ribbon skirts and shirts with Noah Trujillo. The class is free and after school. Please see Miss Lisa if your child is not already registered in Eagle Force( formerly ASES).

We have a fall survey coming out soon. Please take a moment to review it and let us know if you are planning to opt your child out of the survey

We continue to emphasize the importance of excellent attendance. Every school day matters! If your child has missed one or more days of school, they may be able to complete an attendance recovery work packet to create a positive attendance day. Please contact Nancy in the school office for additional information.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Have a wonderful weekend!

If you fly with the Eagles, you will soar!

Family Survey Family Survey

Dear Bonsall Families,

At Bonsall Unified, we value the voices of our students and families. This November, we will be conducting our Fall School Climate Surveys to better understand what is working well in our schools and where we can continue to improve.

Student Survey (Grades 3–12)

Between November 9–20, students in grades 3–12 will complete a brief survey during the school day. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes and asks students about their sense of belonging, school climate, and experiences as learners.

Student responses will be confidential, and students may skip any question they do not wish to answer.

You are welcome to preview the survey questions:

  • English Student Survey

  • Spanish Student Survey

If you prefer that your child not participate, please complete the Student Survey Opt-Out Form by Sunday, November 8.

Family Survey (All Families)

We also invite all parents and guardians to share feedback about their child's school experience. Your responses are anonymous and confidential, and your feedback will help guide our efforts to strengthen our schools.

The family survey will be open November 9–20 and can be completed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

  • Take the Family Survey – English

  • Encuesta para Familias – Español

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and for partnering with us to make Bonsall Unified a place where every student can belong, believe, and achieve.

If you have questions, please contact our District Office at (760) 631-5200.

Sincerely,

Tina Calabrese

💛 Support Love On Your Back

Helping Bonsall Students in Need

Love On Your Back was founded by longtime Bonsall teacher Carol Wood, who served the

Bonsall Unified School District for 32 years. Upon retiring, Carol and a team of dedicated

volunteers launched this nonprofit organization to ensure that no child in our community goes

hungry.

The Love On Your Back Nutritional Backpack Program provides weekend food support for

Bonsall students whose families are facing financial hardship or crisis. Many of these students

rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school week, and this program bridges the gap

by sending home nutritious food to help families through the weekend. Currently we support 153

children in our program.

Our mission is simple but vital: to ensure every child in the Bonsall Unified School District

has the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Unfortunately, with food prices on the rise and limited supplies available from local food banks,

our funds are running low. We are reaching out to our community for help to keep this important

program going.

💛 How You Can Help:

● Make a monetary donation via Venmo: @LoveOnYourBack

● Or send a check to:

Love On Your Back

3597 Kellington Court

Oceanside, CA 92056

We also welcome corporate sponsorships, and we are happy to provide tax-deductible

donation receipts upon request. For more information about our program visit loyb.weebly.com

Together, we can make sure that no child in Bonsall goes hungry.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

It’s that time again when we begin Our Support Our Students Campaign. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $25 per student for every campus. The funds we collect are line-items in our budget and 100% of donations go back to fund teacher requests at Vivian Banks. Parents, all money raised goes directly back to our students' classrooms. Thank you families for sending your child to school every day on time! We have a 95.45% rate so far!

Vivian Banks Charter School Honoring Tradition. Empowering the Future.

Each month students are here everyday will get a popsicle at the end of the month. Students who have perfect attendance from September-December will get a pizza party.

We want to take a moment to emphasize something that is absolutely essential to your child’s success—school attendance. To encourage our students to come to school every day, we are providing incentives. Students who attend and have perfect attendance each month will get a popsicle at the end of the month. If students have perfect attendance from the beginning of the year until December, they will earn a pizza party and go into a raffle to win a gift card.

Showing up matters. When students are present at school—on time and ready to learn—they are better able to access high-quality instruction, build meaningful relationships, and stay on track academically. Research consistently shows that attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student achievement, especially in the early years when foundational skills are built.

Why Attendance Matters:

Every minute counts in the classroom. Learning is cumulative, and when students are absent or arrive late, they miss more than just a lesson—they miss opportunities to ask questions, practice skills, engage in discussions, and connect with their teacher and classmates.

Let’s break it down:

Scenario 1 day absent per month = 9 days per year ( 2 weeks of school missing 60 hours of instruction)

2 days absent per month = 18 days per year: classified as chronically absent: equivalent to nearly 4 weeks of school

10 minutes late per day = over 30 hours per year: that's nearly a full week of lost instructional time

Leaving early once a week= over 20 hours per year: misses critical end of the day routines, homework review, and closure of daily learning.

Even seemingly small amounts of missed time can add up. For example:

  • Missing just 2 days a month is 18 days a year, almost an entire month of school.

  • Arriving 15 minutes late every day is the same as missing two full weeks of school over the course of a year.

Attendance and Student Success:

Students with consistent attendance are more likely to:

  • Meet or exceed grade-level standards in reading and math

  • Build strong social-emotional skills and friendships

  • Develop healthy school habits that prepare them for middle school, high school, and beyond

Students who are frequently absent—especially in early grades—are at greater risk of falling behind, struggling academically, and eventually dropping out of school.

How Families Can Help:

We recognize that sometimes absences are unavoidable due to illness or emergencies. However, we ask for your support in making school attendance a top priority. Here are a few ways you can help:

  • Schedule routine appointments outside of school hours when possible

  • Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep and a consistent morning routine

  • Avoid extended vacations during the school year

  • Communicate with the school if you’re experiencing challenges getting your child to school—we’re here to help

Vivian Banks is Here to Support You

We are committed to partnering with families to ensure every child feels welcome, supported, and excited to come to school each day. If your child is facing any barriers—transportation, health concerns, anxiety, or other issues—please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. Together, we can find a solution. Let’s work together to make this a year full of learning, growth, and success—for every student, every day.
