Responsible Use of School-Issued Devices
Dear Robert Abbott Middle School Students, Parents, and Guardians,
We want to bring to your attention a dangerous TikTok trend that encourages students to insert paperclips or other objects into computer ports. While it may seem like a prank, this behavior is both physically dangerous and financially irresponsible.
Safety Risks
Inserting metal objects into a device’s electrical ports can cause sparks, short circuits, or even fires, posing a serious risk to students and those nearby.
Damage and Cost
This behavior is considered vandalism and can permanently damage school-issued Chromebooks or other technology. Students who intentionally damage district property will be held financially responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement.
At Robert Abbott Middle School, access to a Chromebook is a privilege that supports learning and requires responsible use. We expect all students to treat school equipment with care and to make safe, respectful choices.
Thank you for taking a moment to discuss this important issue with your student.
Sincerely,
Robert Abbott Middle School Administration
