Retirees Could Really Impact Legislation in Annapolis.... Think About It! Retirees Could Really Impact Legislation in Annapolis.... Think About It!

ASASP Retired Administrators...... Lifelong Learners United

How can ASASP grow and expand our voices, our reach and have a greater impact on the direction of the education of our young people? I don't know about you, but I know a lot of people don't want to retire and completely disconnect from education.

The camaraderie, influence and excitement of being an active, vibrant, participant in the lives of our youth doesn't have to end at retirement. Lifelong Learners don't ever stop teaching, learning, impacting and influencing education from the State house to the White House. Think about and let me know.

I am sure that the pathmakers like the Janet Briscoe's, John Brooks, Howard Burnettes, Gladys Whiteheads, Mark Fossetts, Oretha Bridgewaters, Robert Gaskins, Rudy Saunders, Helen Coleys, Joan Shorters and Maria Smiths of the PGCPS world would love to continue to strategize, positively impact and socialize around the work they loved in PGCPS for so many years. Not only that, but the influence and power such a group could have down in Annapolis is tremendous, especially when you add in the Robin Pope-Browns, Leatrice Covingtons, Rhonda Pitts, Danny Miller and Ronald Hollis' out there. I'm calling all Unit 3 and Unit 2 and executive retirees that were trailblazers in the halls of PGCPS to come join us, but first I want to know what you think about it. Please be honest!

Just so you know, our fellow New York City Administrators have over ten thousand retirees standing with their current working union members and the impact their voices have in the New York Legislature is incredible. LMK what you think!

Do you think a retirement unit is a good idea?

"What's Brewing?" "What's Brewing?"

Pour Your Drink and Let's Catch Up!

As the Executive Director of ASASP, I am always looking for ways to connect and communicate with our members. For years now I have done drive-bys to schools and offices to meet members and bring stress release balls and granola bars. A few years ago I invited members to sign-up and come into the office for evening Dinner and Discussion. Those interactions helped boost the visibility and transparency of the union thus increasing our membership by approximately 25% percent in the 31 months between August 1, 2023 and March 1, 2026, since I have served as Executive Director. Although that is a great accomplish for ASASP, I believe we can do better and do more.

Beginning in March, 2026, I and members of my staff will be seeking to get to know you and your concerns even better. I am planning weekly visits to our non-school based sights to connect with most of our Unit 3 and Unit 2 members that we miss when we just visit the schools. I will be notifying you all when we will be visiting your building with brew, breakfast and/or lunch on ASASP.

We will set up there for a couple of hours and provide you with pertinent information, a drink and a bite to eat if that is ok with you. You can drop in for a minute or 30 if you have the time, that's completely up to you.

I am looking forward to getting your input, your perspective and your concerns addressed.

Meet and Greet!

ASASP is working on a Meet and Greet in March, April and May. We are considering a few locations. ASASP would foot the bill for the food and non-alcoholic beverages. The Busboy and Poet's on Route One in Hyattsville in one place we have in mind that may be able accomodate a large number of us. More information will be forthcoming very soon........ Stay tuned!

How often should we plan union gatherings?
