UES Newsletter
Back to School 25-26 Edition
Dear UES Families,
We are so excited to welcome you and your children back for another incredible school year — and this year is extra special because it’s the new UES! Over the summer, we have been hard at work reimagining our school to make it an even more welcoming and supportive place for students and families.
You’ll notice some exciting changes right away. We have a new administrative team and an updated school structure designed to meet the needs of every student better. We’ve also created a new front office space to make UES more inviting for visitors and families, reflecting our commitment to being approachable and connected. Most importantly, we’re shifting our culture to focus even more deeply on understanding, embracing, and supporting student success.
As part of this cultural shift, we are asking families to review the UES Big Three with their children:
-
Make safe choices
-
Treat everyone with respect
-
Do things that build community
These simple but powerful expectations help create a school where every student feels valued, respected, and safe.
Our character education theme for September is Courage. We want to encourage our students to take small but meaningful steps to show their courage — whether it’s saying hello to someone new, speaking up for themselves, or trying something they’ve never done before. As we like to remind our students, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”
We can’t wait to see the smiles, energy, and excitement as our students return to the building. Together, let’s make this year one where our children grow not only as learners but also as kind, brave, and community-minded young people.
Welcome back to the new UES - where amazing things are about to happen!
With excitement and gratitude,
Dr. Lindsay Jablonski and the UES Leadership Team

First Day of School Success Tips
We’re so excited to welcome students back to UES! Here are a few tips to help make the first day smooth and stress-free:
-
Print a copy of your child’s schedule so they can bring it along on the first day.
-
Help your child learn their homeroom teacher’s name—it will make the morning arrival move more smoothly!
-
When students arrive at UES, they’ll head to their homeroom area and line up in the hallway with guidance from our friendly staff.
-
The day begins at 8:00 a.m. sharp, so arriving on time helps everyone start the day right!
-
Grade 5 and 6 families: Please make sure your child brings their UES-issued laptop bag on Wednesday, September 4th.
-
Check student email before Tuesday, September 2nd for any messages from teachers. Student email addresses are formatted as graduation year + last name + first initial + @mtps.us (Example: 27LastF@mtps.us).
-
Review Genesis for updated transportation information to confirm your child’s bus schedule.
Don’t worry—there will be plenty of smiling adults on hand to welcome students, help with directions, and make sure everyone feels ready for a fantastic first day!

Read It Forward Book- A Rover's Story!
This year’s Read It Forward book is A Rover’s Story by Jasmine Warga. It follows Resilience (Res), a Mars rover who isn't just programmed for exploration—he discovers what it means to feel, connect, and persist. Res is courageous, vulnerable, and determined to overcome the unknown. His journey is a beautiful reminder that no matter the obstacle, resilience and heart can take us far.
New This Year: SMART Pass
This fall, we will be introducing SMART Pass, a digital hallway pass system designed to support safe and efficient movement throughout the building. It allows us to better monitor traffic, support students, and ensure a secure school environment.
