Superintendent Update

Superintendent's Update: October 28, 2026
Dear Medway Families,
As we come to the end of October, it has been a busy and rewarding time in our district. In addition to the learning that takes place in our classrooms everyday, I appreciate that our students have a wide range of opportunities to learn and grow outside of the classrooms. Whether in clubs, Community Education programs, athletic teams, or fine and performing arts, these experiences foster active engagement and encourage our students to challenge themselves in new ways. This weekend provided another example of the opportunities that our students have thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff.
This past weekend, Medway Middle School staged an excellent production of the play “Radium Girls” by D.W. Gregory. This powerful play followed factory workers in the 1920s who suffered radiation poisoning while painting watch dials with luminous paint. The paint they used caused the dials to glow, and was radioactive. Our students handled this serious historic topic with great maturity and focus. A link to the program can be found here.
This production featured 41 dedicated cast and crew members, our teachers who took on this project to lead the production, and community volunteers. I wanted to share my congratulations to the cast and crew, and a genuine thank you to all of the adults who worked hard to ensure that our students had this wonderful opportunity.
Please find additional important information included below.
Sincerely,
Armand Pires, Ph.D.

Fall Town Meeting
The Fall Town Meeting provides residents with an opportunity to make decisions about a wide range of topics. The upcoming Fall Town meeting will take place on Monday, November 9, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the Medway High School Auditorium, 88 Summer Street.
At this upcoming Fall Town Meeting, there is one item that requests authorization to transfer $64,000 from certified free cash to Medway Schools Special Education Stabilization Fund.
You may recall that we shared that the Medway School Committee voted to transfer $100,000 to the Special Education Stabilization Account. The Special Education Stabilization Account allows local districts to set aside up to 2% of the annual net school spending amount. These funds can be used to deal with unexpected special education costs during a fiscal year. This is an important step to ensuring that there are resources available to help us manage unexpected expenses.
Teaching and Learning Updates
District Improvement Goals Update: Dynamic Learning & Innovative Instruction: Connecting Teacher Leadership and High-Quality Instruction
Our district work continues to be anchored by the Medway Public Schools Strategic Plan and 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan. Two priorities, Dynamic Learning and Innovative Instruction, work hand in hand to strengthen how educators collaborate, learn, and support students. This year, a central focus is strengthening our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), a framework that connects high-quality classroom instruction, student data, and additional supports to meet all individual learning needs.
Teacher Leadership: Moving Our MTSS Work Forward
Our District Instructional Leadership Team (DILT) brings together educators and administrators from all four schools to guide our districtwide MTSS work. At its October 14 meeting, this cross district team built on last year's Instructional Vision and Look-Fors by examining current practices, identifying five priority areas, and beginning to develop a yearlong plan. This work focuses on strengthening everyday classroom instruction and creating more consistent ways to identify students who need additional support and respond to their needs across our schools.
Professional Learning: Bringing Our MTSS Work into the Classroom
The priorities identified through our districtwide MTSS work help shape the professional learning opportunities we provide for educators. During the October 21 Early Release Day, staff continued this work through MTSS Starts with Tier 1: Defining What Every Medway Student Should Experience. The session focused on identifying the essential instructional practices that promote student engagement, meaningful learning, and success for all students.
Additional professional learning included supporting students with disabilities, strengthening school nursing practices, and launching curriculum reviews in World Languages and High School Science. Educators also had dedicated time for grade-level and department collaboration.
We look forward to continuing this work during our next Professional Learning Day on December 9.
Beyond our districtwide MTSS work, Medway educators are also engaging in professional learning opportunities that bring innovative instructional practices into our classrooms. Two recent examples highlight this commitment.
MA Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Fall Conference
On October 19, five Medway educators and leaders attended the Massachusetts Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Fall Conference, joining 550 educators from across the state. PLTW is a hands-on STEM education program offered through courses at Medway Middle and High Schools that engages students in real-world problem solving through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The conference focused on effective instructional practices, including learning from mistakes and using feedback to strengthen student understanding.
Medway High School teacher Jon Jasinski presented two sessions, sharing how feedback and student conferencing strengthen engineering design and student ownership of learning. These practices connect directly to our districtwide focus on meaningful student engagement and feedback.
One8 Replicating Applied Learning Instruction Everywhere (RALIE) Cohort
Four Medway educators and leaders are participating in the One8 RALIE What-Why-How Cohort alongside teams from eight Massachusetts schools. This professional learning focuses on helping students understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how they will demonstrate their skills.
Following the October 8 kickoff, the Medway team will develop examples of these practices and explore how to incorporate them into high school classrooms.
Together, these opportunities reflect our continued commitment to instructional practices that engage students in meaningful learning, encourage reflection, and help students take ownership of their growth.
Medway School Committee Activities
At the October 22 School Committee meeting, Patrick McIntyre, Director of Finance and Operations provided the FY27 Quarterly Update. The update showed that during the first quarter of FY2027, the school budget remained within its overall operating budget, with no budget transfers needed at this time. Transportation savings and reduced electricity purchases following the Burke-Memorial solar installation have helped manage costs. We will continue to monitor staffing, special education, curriculum, and utility expenses closely as the year progresses.
Additionally, as they do each year, the School Committee created their goals for the 26-27 School Year. This year’s School Committee goals include:
Community Engagement: Expand district updates, highlight school accomplishments, strengthen community/state partnerships, and provide open opportunities for public input.
Student Outcomes: Review performance data to guide priorities, launch a Portrait of a Graduate, update technology/cybersecurity policies, and refine student assessment methods.
Financial Management: Ensure the annual budget reflects district priorities, regularly review financial reports, advocate for equitable state funding (including Chapter 70 and grants), and collaborate with municipal partners on funding.
Policy and Governance: Maintain up-to-date district policies, support superintendent evaluation and district leadership, and ensure alignment with state and federal laws and regulations. The full document can be found here.
In addition, the School Committee accepted a $25,000 My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP) Initiative grant to expand work-based learning opportunities for Medway High School students. Additionally, the district received a $7,000 state grant to support the implementation of the MyCAP program.

Superintendent's Update: October 15, 2026
Dear Medway Families,
In Medway, we are fortunate to have such a dedicated team of educators and staff. Working in education has continued to grow in complexity, and we are incredibly grateful for the commitment, care, and expertise that our educators bring to this work.
October is National Principals Month and we want to take a moment to recognize and express our appreciation to the leaders of our Medway Schools. The role of principal has also become significantly more complex over time. Following our recent leadership transitions, three of our buildings are being led by principals who are serving their first year in the role. A big “thank you” to Mrs. Holt (McGovern), Dr. Reynolds (Memorial), Ms. Luizzi (Middle School) and Mr. Peri. (High School).

FY2028 Capital Improvement Plan Requests
As a first step in the Fiscal Year 2028 Capital Requests, the Medway School Committee approved the Fiscal Year 2028 Capital Improvement requests. Requests included funding for the following: completion of a district-wide facilities conditions and assessment plan, repairs and replacements for chiller equipment at the high school, safety enhancements district wide, replacement of the athletics/activity van, and replacement of both the middle and high school roofs.
The replacement of the roofs at both schools was expected as the roofs are nearing the end of their useful life. A recent inspection of both roofs was conducted and confirmed that roof replacement is warranted. The cost of roof replacement is significant and combined is expected to cost approximately $12.5 million dollars. Please see below for additional information about roof replacement funding.
For other capital projects funding requests, the administrative team will be meeting with the Capital Improvement Plan Committee in December to discuss the district’s needs. Following that discussion, capital requests will move to Town Meeting for approval.

Teaching and Learning Updates
District Improvement Goals Update: Dynamic Learning: Artificial Intelligence
Our district work continues to be anchored by the Medway Public Schools Strategic Plan and 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan. A continuing goal in the area of Dynamic Instruction is to explore and adopt Artificial Intelligence Tools and Use Policy.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly prevalent in schools, workplaces, and everyday life, Medway Public Schools has been engaged in ongoing discussions about how we can prepare faculty, staff, and students to use these tools responsibly and effectively while continuing to develop students’ critical thinking skills that are essential to learning.
As an important next step, the district will soon launch ClassCloud, a secure AI platform that provides access to multiple AI tools within an environment designed to protect personally identifiable information and district data. We will intentionally begin the rollout with faculty and staff first, providing time for educators to become familiar with the platform, explore its potential to support teaching and learning, and identify effective practices.
This initial phase will also allow us to thoughtfully develop parameters for future student use, including grade-level access and appropriate learning opportunities. As this work develops, we will continue to share information with families, including the above resources to help families understand and navigate the rapidly changing role of AI in education.
Beginning of Year Assessments
During the fall, winter, and spring, Medway Public Schools administers universal assessments to students in Grades K–10 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. We recently completed our beginning-of-year assessments across the district.
These assessments are aligned with grade-level expectations in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and provide educators and families with information about students’ areas of strength and opportunities for continued growth. Educators use this information, along with classroom performance and other measures, to inform instruction and identify opportunities for additional support or enrichment.
While these assessments represent just one source of information we use to understand student learning, they are an important part of helping us respond to the needs of each student. Families are encouraged to reach out to their child’s teacher with questions about these assessments or their child’s progress.
Investigating History Community Day Participation
On September 28, staff from the Medway Middle School and central office participated in Investigating History’s Community Day, joining educators and instructional leaders from across Massachusetts to continue strengthening implementation of the Investigating History curriculum. Investigating History is a free, comprehensive, inquiry-based social studies curriculum for grades 3 through 7 supported by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Medway has been a leader in supporting the development and then implementing Investigating History in Grades 5–7 since 2021 and has become a leader in this work. The day focused on strategies to make history learning engaging and meaningful for students, including student discussion and questioning, connections to students’ lives and other subject areas, and strong classroom implementation. The event also provided an opportunity to learn alongside other districts, share Medway’s experiences, and bring back new ideas to support engaging, inquiry-based history instruction for our students.

Superintendent's Update: October 2, 2026
Dear Medway Families,
It has been a wonderful start to the school year!
Student learning outcomes are a vital indicator of how well we are meeting our students' needs. For nearly thirty years, the Massachusetts state assessments (MCAS) have allowed us to evaluate our progress alongside districts across the Commonwealth. While a 2024 ballot initiative removed the MCAS graduation requirement, which has contributed to declining performance in that group, these assessments remain a valuable tool for understanding student growth and opportunities.
The state recently released the 2026 MCAS results and Accountability designations. As we analyze this data to share with you in the coming weeks, a continuing state-wide narrative is that Massachusetts students have not yet fully recovered from the pandemic. However, this narrative often overlooks changing student populations and minimizes the impact of removing the graduation requirement.
While we remain committed to continually reviewing and improving our practices to support all students, we wanted to share a few points of pride. According to the Education Recovery Scorecard, a joint research initiative by Harvard and Stanford Universities, our students achieved the following highlights:

District Improvement Goals Update
Teaching & Learning Update: Bringing Our Strategic Plan to Life
As shared in our last Community Update, we will provide regular updates throughout the year on our progress toward district improvement efforts. As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, our teaching and learning work continues to be guided by the priorities outlined in the Medway Public Schools Strategic Plan and 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan. Across the district, we are working to translate these priorities into meaningful action that strengthens teaching, supports educators, and creates engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning experiences for all students.
A continuing goal in the area of Dynamic Instruction is to expand and implement a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) in academic and social-emotional learning.
Innovative Instruction
Last year, a team of Medway educators and leaders developed a shared Instructional Vision and Framework, including Instructional Look-Fors that define the high-leverage instructional practices we want students to experience across our schools. The goal is not for every classroom to look the same, but to create greater coherence and ensure all students have access to engaging, rigorous, and student-centered learning.
This year, we are moving from defining our vision to bringing it to life. Professional learning is focused on strengthening high-quality core instruction, beginning with how we frame learning so students understand its purpose, connect it to prior learning and larger ideas, engage in meaningful thinking and sense-making, and reflect on their developing understanding.
This instructional work is also the foundation of our continued development of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Strong core instruction is our first level of support for every student. At the same time, we are working toward greater consistency across schools in how we identify student needs, provide additional academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports, and use data to determine whether those supports are working.
Together, these efforts connect our Strategic Plan to the daily experiences of students and educators: a shared vision for high-quality instruction, a system of support responsive to student needs, and leadership structures that build the capacity to sustain this work.

School Safety Training and Preparedness
Maintaining safe and prepared school communities requires ongoing training, practice, and collaboration. The Medway Public Schools is fortunate to partner with the Medway Police and Fire Departments. Recently, the Medway Police Department led school safety training for faculty and staff across the district. This annual training provides an opportunity to review district safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and the roles and responsibilities of staff during a variety of emergency situations.
We are grateful to the Medway Police Department for their continued partnership in this important work. Their collaboration with our schools helps ensure that our safety practices remain coordinated, current, and responsive to the needs of our school community.
We recognize that ensuring that our schools are safe and secure is an important responsibility. To provide updates to families, we are planning to host a Medway Schools Safety Webinar, in partnership with the Medway Police Department on December 7, 2026. The webinar will provide families with an overview of our approach to school safety, emergency preparedness, and communication while maintaining appropriate confidentiality around specific safety procedures. We will share a registration form in an upcoming communication.
School Lunch on Early Release Days
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has updated requirements which now require that students are provided school lunch on early release days. For the Medway Schools this will include 9 days for elementary students and 8 days for secondary. Please anticipate an update from your child’s school. The requirements can be found here that students be provided lunch on early release days.
Free Breakfast & Lunch for the 2026-2027 School Year
Medway Public Schools is pleased to continue offering free breakfast and lunch to all students during the 2026-2027 school year through the Commonwealth's support of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Every student enrolled in Medway Public Schools is eligible to receive healthy school meals at no cost, regardless of household income.
Although meals are available free of charge to all students, we strongly encourage families to complete a Meal Benefit Application if they believe they may qualify. Meal Benefit Applications help determine eligibility for additional benefits while also providing valuable data that supports school funding and access to important community resources. Applications, eligibility information, and additional program details are available on the Medway Public Schools website under Free & Reduced Lunch. Families with questions or who would like assistance completing an application may contact Amy Jacobs at 508-533-3222, ext. 3160 or amjacobs@medwayschools.org.

Superintendent's Update: September 18, 2026
Dear Medway Families,
We were thrilled to welcome students back! We are thankful for the Medway Police and Fire Departments for joining our faculty and staff welcoming students back to school. There were lots of smiles, some looks of trepidation, and even a few tears. Overall it has been a great start.
We have so much to be proud of across the Medway Public Schools, from the strong learning happening in our classrooms each day to the dedication of our educators and the many opportunities we provide for our students to learn, grow, and thrive. As we have shared, the Medway Schools continue to identify opportunities to improve the experience and outcomes for our students and families. An important focus of this work is to ensure progress connected to the 2025-2030 Medway Public Schools Strategic Plan. This five-year plan provides our roadmap for improvement moving forward. This plan articulates the Medway Public Schools Vision, Mission, Core Values, Strategic Initiatives and Objectives. The Strategic Plan can be found here.
Each year, the district adopts a District Improvement Plan, and each school creates a School Improvement Plan. These plans are directly connected to the Strategic Plan and outline the planned improvement efforts in key areas for the upcoming year. The District Improvement Plan can be found here.
As we begin the 2026-2027 school year we have already been hard at work at making progress on the improvement initiatives outlined in the district improvement plan. The 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan includes two goals in each of the Strategic Priority Areas. The identified goals for this year include:
While these stated goals do not capture all of the planned improvement efforts, it does share the focus areas as connected to the Strategic Plan. As we pursue these ambitious goals, your continued partnership and engagement remain vital to our shared success. We will provide updates on progress of these improvement efforts throughout the year with a “District Improvement Goal Update” section of this update.
Please find other important information and updates below.
Sincerely,
Armand Pires, Ph.D.

School Start Time Family Survey - Participation Requested
The Medway Schools has formed a School Start Time Committee which includes representation from teachers, families, students, and administrators. The Committee is charged with reviewing our school start times, identifying opportunities for improvement, as it specifically relates to student wellness, and to make a recommendation to the Medway School Committee on whether to maintain or alter school start times. To make an informed decision, the Committee is looking for family input and asks that you please review the research on school start times and complete this survey by October 9.
Updates from the Medway School Committee
The Medway School Committee held its first meeting of the new school year on September 10. The meeting included some beginning of the school year updates and information. Most notable were the following activities:
Policy Adoption ACL: Interacting with Law Enforcement Officers Engaged in Civil Law Enforcement (Protect Act)
As you may be aware, on August 5, Governor Healey signed into law the PROTECT Act (Stat. 2026, c. 163, §§ 1-24) (Act). The law states “that, except as required by state or federal law or as required for the Commonwealth or its subdivisions to administer a state or federally supported or funded program, civil arrests, including for federal immigration enforcement, are not allowed in the following nonpublic areas: school grounds during operating hours without a judicial warrant or judicial order.” (Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Commissioner's Weekly Update (August 24, 2026).
The PROTECT Act establishes requirements for schools, which include, among other things, to enact a policy and implement procedures about interaction with civil law enforcement. established requirements for all schools in Massachusetts.
At the September 10, 2026 School Committee meeting the committee reviewed and approved the required policy: ACL: Interacting with Law Enforcement Officers Engaged in Civil Law Enforcement (Protect Act).
In addition, Districts were required to adopt Administrative Regulations related to the PROTECT Act and share them with staff as well as the broader community. We have adopted the following Medway Public Schools Administrative Procedures for Interacting with Civil Law Enforcement (Protect Act).
Funding of the Special Education Stabilization Account
To provide some background, in 2016 the Commonwealth of Massachusetts created and allowed for each local school district to establish a Special Education Stabilization Account through action by the School Committee and approval at Town Meeting. At the request of the Medway School Committee and with support of the Select Board, the Town of Medway approved the establishment of the Special Education Stabilization Account at the Annual Town Meeting in 2018.
The Special Education Stabilization Account allows local districts to set aside up to 2% of the annual net school spending amount. These funds can be used to deal with unexpected special education costs during a fiscal year. While deposits to this stabilization account may be made by vote of the School Committee, or the Select Board, approval to access funds within this account can only be made by a vote of the School Committee and Select Board.
At their September 10, 2026 meeting, the Medway School Committee voted to transfer $100,000 from the School Choice Revolving account to the Special Education Stabilization Account. This is the first time that funding of this account has occurred.
Capital Improvement Requests / Projects
We appreciate the continued support and partnership of the Town of Medway, School Committee, Select Board, Finance Committee, Capital Improvement Committee, and residents who supported the Capital Improvement Project Requests for the Medway Schools.
The Fiscal Year 2026 Capital Projects included:
Replacement of the Medway Middle School Cafeteria floor
Replacement of Boilers at Medway High School
Painting of Medway Middle School (3rd floor)
Purchase of a Student Transportation Van
Renovation of Bathrooms at McGovern Elementary (nearing completion)
Purchase of updated furniture (to be completed)
Replacement of a district F250 Pickup Truck (to be completed)
Repaving of McGovern School entry road and parking lot (completed through DPW request)
Completion of Burke-Memorial Rooftop Solar Array (completed at no cost)
Additional information can be found here: Completed and Upcoming Capital Projects Presentation
In addition, the School Committee reviewed the Fiscal Year 2027 Capital Improvement Requests and will take action at their next meeting to approve items to be shared with the Town for their review.
Updates from Support Organizations
Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) Event
On September 15, SEPAC hosted a Family Game Night and Meet and Greet with the new Director and and Assistant Directors of Student Services. Families gathered for an enjoyable evening of board games and treats provided by SEPAC, giving parents and children a chance to connect while new Director of Student Services Barbara Cerwonka and Assistant Director John Kelley introduced themselves and mingled with attendees. This slide outlining district-wide student support was presented to assist families in identifying resources and reaching out when needed. It was a wonderful event, and we look forward to seeing even more families at future SEPAC meetings and activities throughout the school year!
Sensory Friendly Hayride
The Medway SEPAC is sponsoring a Sensory Friendly Hayride on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at Tangerini's Farm, Spring Street, Millis. Please click the flyer below to register and for more information about the event. Registration for the hayride must be completed by September 21st.
SEPAC Trunk or Treat
Our SEPAC team has been working very hard to create a fun and inclusive Trunk or Treat on October 16th for all families, that includes food, music, and a basket raffle! While the community flyer lists an event start time as 5:00 p.m., IEP, 504 and special education families are invited to come at 4:30 p.m. for a quieter, sensory-friendly start for children who may benefit from a less crowded environment. We are grateful to the SEPAC for giving us this opportunity to bring our community together.
Additional Updates & Information
School Lunch on Early Release Days
School Lunches on Early Release Days: The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has updated a requirement that students be provided lunch on early release days. Medway Public Schools will continue providing free school lunch to all students on scheduled early release days, covering 9 half days for elementary students and 8 days for secondary students. To comply with federal regulations, these meals must be offered and eaten at school during the school day rather than sent home as a takeaway bag. Medway staff are currently fine-tuning logistics to make this work smoothly without extending the school day, and while these adjustments will require a bit of flexibility as the rollout begins, families can expect more detailed updates soon.
Transportation
Bus pass implementation, originally scheduled to begin this week, will be delayed by one week. Bus passes will be distributed to students beginning Friday, September 18, with the bus pass requirement taking effect on Tuesday, September 22.
This additional time will allow the Transportation Department to address outstanding Pay-to-Ride accounts and last-minute transportation requests before implementation begins.
Until bus passes are distributed, students who are registered for transportation will continue to be permitted to ride and will not be turned away for not having a bus pass.
Beginning September 22, students will be required to have their valid bus pass attached to the outside of their backpack in order to ride the bus. Families with outstanding Pay-to-Ride balances should resolve those balances as soon as possible to avoid an interruption in transportation services.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work through these final transportation procedures.
Student Micromobility Use (e-bikes, scooters, mopeds, etc.)
As many of you are aware, there is growing national and local concern regarding the safe operation of e-bikes, scooters, and mopeds. Recently, Medway Public Schools leadership met with representatives from the Medway Police and Fire Departments to establish a partnership focused on student safety. Our goal is to ensure that children are in compliance with Massachusetts state laws and are fully aware of safe operating practices for these devices.
While we are still in the planning stages for broader student education and clarified guidance around use of these devices, we want to share an essential resource for parents developed by the Medway Police Department. This guide provides clarity on the different types of devices, legal age and licensing requirements for each, and the specific helmet standards that users must follow.
The Medway Police Department is available as a resource if you have questions regarding a device you currently own or are considering purchasing for your child.
Please look for additional information and updates on this important topic as the school year progresses.

Superintendent's Update: August 28, 2026
Dear Medway Families,
We are excited to welcome our students back to the Medway Schools for the 2026-2027 academic year! Classes resume on Monday, August 31, for grades 1-12, and Tuesday, September 1, for Pre-K and Kindergarten. Our staff has returned this week with enthusiasm, and has been hard at work putting the final touches on our classrooms and programs in preparation for a successful year ahead.
It has been a productive summer, highlighted by student programming, extensive professional development for our faculty, and meaningful facilities improvements across our schools. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our entire staff, as well as the Town of Medway partners including Medway Department of Public Works, Medway Police and Fire Departments whose hard work has been instrumental in preparing our district for opening day.
This communication includes several important updates. Please be sure to take a moment to review the following timely items:
Annual Information Review: Families are required to complete this review for each child before the end of next week. Please see the directions below.
Traffic & Transportation: With school back in session, please anticipate increased traffic throughout town. This may affect bus schedules during the first few days and we ask for your patience..
Student Micromobility: To support student safety, we are sharing guidance regarding the use of e-bikes, scooters, and similar devices. Please find additional information and a parent resource below.
We look forward to a vibrant and successful 2026-2027 school year.
Sincerely,
Armand Pires, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Free Breakfast & Lunch for the 2026-2027 School Year
Although meals are available free of charge to all students, we strongly encourage families to complete a Meal Benefit Application if they believe they may qualify. Meal Benefit Applications help determine eligibility for additional benefits while also providing valuable data that supports school funding and access to important community resources. Families who qualify may also be eligible for reduced fees for certain school and community programs, including transportation, athletics, Chromebook fees, preschool tuition, field trips and other school fees, and Medway Community Education programs. Eligibility for these additional benefits requires families to complete a separate Sharing Form authorizing Medway Public Schools to share their meal benefit eligibility information with the programs they select. Applications, eligibility information, and additional program details are available on the Medway Public Schools website under Free & Reduced Lunch. Families with questions or who would like assistance completing an application may contact Amy Jacobs at 508-533-3222, ext. 3160 or amjacobs@medwayschools.org.
Yellow-Bus Transportation Update
The Transportation Department has now shared final transportation assignments with families of students registered for yellow-bus transportation for the 2026–2027 school year. Families received their student's bus number, designated bus stop, and approximate morning pickup and afternoon drop-off times. The complete district transportation schedule, including all routes, stops, and estimated times, is available on the Bus Schedules webpage.
Families are reminded that posted bus times are estimates and may vary based on traffic, weather, road conditions, and student loading and unloading. Students should be ready at their designated stop approximately 10 minutes before the posted pickup time. We also ask for patience during the first several weeks of school as students, families, and drivers become familiar with the new routes and schedules. With routes now locked for the start of the school year, this will allow our drivers, families, and students to become familiar with their assigned routes and stops and establish consistent routines as the school year gets underway.
Bus passes will be distributed during the first month of school. Until passes are distributed, registered students will be permitted to ride without a pass. Once passes are issued, students will be required to have their pass attached to their backpack to board. Pay-to-Ride families must have any outstanding transportation balance paid in full before a bus pass will be issued.
Families with questions or concerns regarding a transportation assignment, or whose transportation needs have changed, should submit an inquiry through the 2026-2027 Transportation Questions/Requests Form. Routes and stops have been finalized based on safety, geographic and operational considerations, and transportation efficiency; while the District will review submitted concerns, not every request will result in a change or a response.
Pesticide Applications
The Medway Public Schools follow the requirements of the Massachusetts Act Protecting Children and Families from Harmful Pesticides of 2000 (M.G.L. c. 71, § 46K), which is intended to reduce children's exposure to pesticides, promote safer alternatives, and ensure that families are notified when pesticide applications occur at schools. The district also follows an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, which emphasizes prevention and non-chemical methods before relying on pesticides.
From time to time, the Town of Medway or the district may schedule pesticide applications in or around our school buildings and grounds. For scheduled outdoor applications, families can expect advance written notification at least two working days before the application. The notification will identify the approximate application dates, specific location, pesticide product and EPA registration information, purpose of the application, and applicable precautions for minimizing exposure. This information will be posted on the Medway Public Schools website and communicated to families by email. Treated areas will also be clearly posted with warning signage before and following the application, as required by law.
