It was so great to see so many of you on campus this week for Back To School Night. We had a fantastic turnout, and our staff was so happy to meet you and to share information about the year ahead. This week we have our first minimum day of the year on Friday, August 30th. On minimum days, we start school at 8:15 am, and students are dismissed at 12:25 pm. We do offer breakfast before school at 7:50 am, and students will be allowed on campus at that time to get their food and eat, breakfast service will conclude at 8:10 am.

On Friday, August 30th, after dismissal, we will have Kona Ice for sale in front of the school. This is a fundraiser for our robotics program so please support our students with your purchases. You can bring cash or use Apple Pay, Google pay, or a credit card to buy your Kona Ice to kick off the long weekend.

Congratulations to Mr.Jennings for being recognized as this week's Faculty Friday. Mr.Jennings is our leadership teacher, and this week, the ASB students did an outstanding job supporting our back-to-school night. THANK YOU!

Now is a perfect time to be involved with the Hewes School Site Council. As an elected member of the School Site Council, you will attend four meetings during the school year to discuss the improvements to the campus and have input on the School Site Plan, Safety Plan, and other important information on school functionality. The School Site Council is a chance for you, along with others, to work together to make Hewes the best middle school for your student. We have ONE opening this year on School Site Council.

Please complete THIS interest form by 3:00 PM, Monday, August 26, 2024, if you are interested in being on the ballot for these very important positions.

The meeting dates will be 9/16, 11/4, 2/3, 4/7 at 2:50 PM on the Hewes campus.

On minimum days the meal service is shifted for all students at Hewes. Students will be served Breakfast before school, 7:50 am - 8:10 am, and will be served lunch items at Break, 10:30 am - 10:41 am. No food will be served after school and pick up is at 12:25 pm.

Sixth-grade families interested in the ELOP after-school program need to reach out to Nancy Roman at the YMCA. The best way to connect is to email her directly at nroman@ymcaoc.org. She will be able to provide information about eligibility and registration.

Due to ongoing campus construction, the main office has been relocated to the Activity Center. If you need to sign your student out early or if they arrive late from an appointment, please proceed to the pedestrian gate next to the Activity Center and signs will lead you to our reception area.

Please welcome Ms. Florio to our Special Education Team. She is an SAI Teacher and is so excited to be working with students at the middle school level. Some of you may recognize her from Arroyo, where she has been teaching for the last two years. Ms. Florio went to Harvest Park Middle School in Pleasanton, California, and we are thrilled to have her on our staff.

FUN FACT: Ms. Florio has six pairs of overalls!

Spirtwear Store #2 closes on 8/25/24 @ 11:50 pm. All spiritwear from Store #1 has been delivered. Orders can be placed on the Hewes PTA website at HewesPTA.org.

The Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) is partnering with Data Impressions & Microsoft to highlight students who model outstanding daily engagement and attendance when healthy. Data Impressions and Microsoft have generously donated Microsoft Surface Go (or similar) devices to continue the TUSD engagement incentive program into a tenth year! One computer will be given away at the end of the school year at every school site in TUSD. All students who maintain daily engagement at TUSD’s schools will have a chance to win!
