RCHS February Newsletter
Valentine's Day, President's Day & Winter Break!
It's Going To Be a Fabulous February at RCHS!
As you'll see in this month's newsletter, we have some important dates and fun events coming up at RCHS. We're well into 2nd trimester and are proud of all that our students are accomplishing in and out of the classroom. This week we've had a lot of fun with spirit week, leading up to our first Coming Home Dance. We'd like to thank Mrs. Bailey and our Student Council for all the work they've put into organizing this event and we hope that it becomes a special tradition like Homecoming.
Thank you also to all who filled out our perception surveys. This data is included in our school improvement report which we send to the state and is shared to the public on the district website. We are proud that our students know how to act (97%), know what they're learning (89%), have an adult they can go to with a problem (80%), have friends at school (90%), and know what resources are available when they need help (82%). However, we have some work to do with prioritizing attendance, asking for help, and serving healthier lunches.
Finally, please reach out to your student's teachers or counselor if you have questions or concerns about your his / her progress. Senior parents, if you were unable to attend either of our FAFSA nights, please reach out to Ms. Welniak at swelniak@riverviewschools.com for assistance. We have some great prizes to incentivize our seniors to complete and submit their FAFSA form to see if they qualify for any financial aid for post-secondary education or work study.
We hope you have a great month. Go Pirates!!
~ Mrs. Furkas & Mr. DiBrano
**If you have something to highlight for a future newsletter, please email me (jfurkas@riverviewschools.com or Mrs. Shaul (jlshaul@riverviewschools.com). I'm always looking for ways to showcase our students!**

Thank you to Parent Club President Mrs. Martin for organizing the event and to all of the parents that made donations; to staff members Mrs. Rebeka, Mr. Southward and Mr. DiBrano for volunteering at the event, and to our students and coaches that made it happen. Popcorn Pirates Provide a Tasty Treat
Popcorn Pirates, led by school social worker Marci Heulitt, is a school-based enterprise (SBE) which provides realistic and practical work-based learning experience. High school students make and sell fresh popcorn at Riverview High School. For many students, this program provides their first work experience; for others, this program provides an opportunity to build management, supervision and leadership skills. The Popcorn Pirates are comprised of over 30 students who are at different levels of learning how to run a small business. The Popcorn Pirates also work with other outside agencies such as The Guidance Center and Michigan Rehabilitation Services which also provide business classes and work readiness skills classes. The Popcorn Pirates are socially responsible by donating money to local community organizations. Popcorn Pirates is a socially conscious business and is learning about how to share with others. We appreciate our customers most of all and love to provide fresh and delicious popcorn for the staff and students.
