Some thoughts for the starting school year
May 2026
The Value of the Month is Honesty
"When you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what you said." — Mark Twain
Jessop Priorities
- To ensure our children are happy and we explain things well
- To ensure no child leaves our school unable to read
- To ensure children learn a broad vocabulary to access the world around them
- To enhance the educational experiences of diagnosed and undiagnosed children with SEND
A Message from Mr Baffoe
May Reflections
As we move into our final half-term of the academic year, there is much to look forward to. This term, we will be celebrating Windrush Day, providing children with the opportunity to learn about and honour the invaluable contributions of the Windrush Generation and their lasting impact on British society.
We are also excited to celebrate a truly special milestone in our school's history—150 years of Jessop Primary School. To mark this occasion, we will be hosting a community event in school, bringing together current families, former pupils, staff and members of our wider community to celebrate our rich heritage and the generations of people who have been part of the Jessop story.
Alongside these celebrations, we have a busy and exciting programme of events planned, including Sports Day, Class Assemblies, our annual Carnival, end-of-year performances and our Summer Fair. We encourage families to check the school calendar regularly for key dates and upcoming events.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to sharing these special occasions with you and ending the school year with many wonderful memories and achievements.
Keep an eye out for our latest May SEND Newsletter out now!

Class Assembly
Seal Class Assembly
Seal Class Wows with Their Pinocchio Performance
A huge well done to Seal Class for their fantastic assembly on our value of the month, Honesty. Through their entertaining rendition of Pinocchio, the children reminded us of the importance of always telling the truth and taking responsibility for our actions. With confident acting, energetic rapping and plenty of enthusiasm, they captivated the audience from start to finish. We are incredibly proud of their performance and the important message they shared. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support the children—it was wonderful to see so many of you there.
Stronger Together: Tiger Class Celebrates Unity
Year 5 Windrush Class Assembly & Celebration in the Park
We are excited to invite all Year 5 parents and carers to come and watch your child perform their Windrush Class Assembly, a powerful and creative end to their topic this term. The assembly will take place as part of our Windrush Day celebrations on Friday 19th June 2026 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in Milkwood Park.
This is a fantastic opportunity to support your child and honour the legacy of Windrush through music, drama, and storytelling. To help us make the event even more special, we kindly ask families to bring a cooked dish, snacks or drinks to share as part of our community picnic.
Food donations can be brought to the school office earlier in the day, and perishable items may be delivered either in the morning or by 2:30pm on the day of the event. We look forward to celebrating together!
Windrush Celebration and Picnic in the Park
We warmly invite all parents and carers to take part in our Windrush Celebrations on Friday 20th June 2025 at 3:30pm in Milkwood Park, as we come together to honour this important part of our shared history. Help us make the day extra special by bringing along a cooked dish, snacks, or drinks for everyone to enjoy—no contribution is too big or too small! There will be music, laughter, and plenty of friendly faces, so let’s celebrate in true community spirit!

Please come along and show your support—it means so much to the children and will make the occasion even more memorable!
SATs Week
Year 6 SATs – A Team Effort
A huge well done to our Year 6 children for their hard work, focus, and determination during SATs week. We also want to thank our dedicated teachers and support staff who went above and beyond to support the children in their preparation. A special mention goes to Ms Jenkins, whose excellent organisation and careful planning ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the week. It was a true team effort, and we are so proud of everyone involved!
Year 6 Sayer's Croft - A Week of Adventure and Discovery
Our Year 6 pupils recently enjoyed an incredible residential trip to Sayers Croft, packed with exciting activities, new challenges and memorable experiences. Throughout the week, the children demonstrated resilience, teamwork and independence as they took part in a range of outdoor adventures and problem-solving activities. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to step outside their comfort zones, develop confidence and strengthen friendships ahead of their transition to secondary school. A huge thank you to Miss Jenkins, Miss Jenoure and all the staff who gave up their time to make the trip such a success and ensure the children returned home safely with memories that will last a lifetime. We would also like to thank our parents and carers for their continued support in making this valuable experience possible.
In a World of Possibilities
He is One of Our Own - Star Boy player Scores the Opening Goal in the Under 8s Spring Gold Vase Cup Final
Congratulations to the Shirley Town Windmills U8s on reaching the Under 8s Spring Gold Vase Final in their very first season. The team played with incredible determination in a thrilling, end-to-end match that kept supporters on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. With only one goal separating the teams as the final score was 4 - 3 to the oposition. The children showed outstanding resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. Reaching a cup final in their first year together is a remarkable achievement and one they should all be immensely proud of. We were delighted to celebrate their success in assembly the following day and recognise how far they have come. Well done, Team Windmills – your future looks very bright!

This Month we Shine a Light on Homework
Please help support your child with their spellings by looking at the spelling rules, sounds and patterns in each word. Practising spellings daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word.
In KS1, children will need to choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children will need to write a sentence for each word, using neat, joined handwriting.
This will give the children the opportunity to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context and allow them to practise their handwriting.
The children will complete a Spelling and Times Table test during the week

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who have generously given their time to support our Green Roots Project. Thanks to their hard work, all of our plants have now been repotted and transferred outdoors after thriving in the greenhouses. The plants have grown incredibly quickly and are now entering the next exciting phase of their journey. We look forward to continuing to nurture them and, in the coming months, celebrating the fruits (and vegetables) of our labour. This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when our school community comes together.

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential, is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.01am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Raising a Concern
It is important to us that any concerns or questions you may have are dealt with as efficiently as possible. The structure we have in place is designed to do just that.
The structure
1) Your first port of call is -Your child’s class teacher
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
2) You may contact the leader of your child’s phase
This includes issues regarding communication and organisation
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
Should you be dissatisfied with the handling or outcome…
3) You may raise your concerns with Mr Baffoe
(email via the admin team to request a meeting outlining the nature for the purpose of the meeting)
Leaders are required to share items (as appropriate) with Mr Baffoe on a weekly basis, even if the matter is being handled by them.
We request that you do not field your concerns to FoJ but instead work directly with the school staff as outlined above.
