NEW: AZAC Meeting - October 20, 2026

*Change: Desert Oasis HS zoned students to Silverado HS for 2027-2028

The Attendance Zone Advisory Commission (AZAC) is evaluating attendance zones during the 2026-2027 zoning season. You are receiving this email because your student attends a school that feeds into a school whose attendance zone is currently under review. Although your student's current school may not be directly impacted, changes to the receiving school's attendance boundary may affect the feeder pattern. We want to ensure families are informed about the rezoning process.

The next meeting to discuss rezoning will be held at the Edward A. Greer Education Center Boardroom, 2832 East Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89121, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. The agenda and reference items can be found by clicking here.

The AZAC process begins in the fall and culminates in the spring with approval of zoning recommendations by the Board of School Trustees. More information about this process can be found on the AZAC website at azac.ccsd.net.

Your input is a valuable part of this process. If you wish to share your opinion or have any questions, but are unable to attend the meeting, please mail your comments to AZAC, 1180 Military Tribute Place, Henderson, NV 89074, or email the commission at azac@nv.ccsd.net. To speak with an individual AZAC member, please leave a message on the AZAC Hotline at (702) 799-0239. Your AZAC member will return your call at their earliest opportunity.

NEW: Halloween Spirit Days and Dance, October 19-23

NEW: Halloween Dress Up Guidelines, October 29th

On Thursday, October 29, 2026, Canarelli MS students are permitted to come to school wearing a costume; however, to avoid any confusion, we are sending these expectations for costumes and behavior. If your child plans on dressing up that day, please take a moment to discuss our expectations.

Although I want the students to have a fun day, it is still a school day. Costumes cannot interfere with instruction.

The following are the guidelines set by the Clark County School District and the Canarelli MS school administration for acceptable costumes:

Costumes must be safe and not be a safety hazard to any students or staff
All costumes must comply with CCSD and Canarelli MS dress code. Specifically, no revealing tops, provocative outfits, no belly shirts, shorts and skirts must be at least fingertip length, etc. Please exercise good judgement when choosing your costume for school.
NO simulated weapons of any kind will be permitted. This includes swords, guns, grenades, arrows, knives, etc. Anything that could be perceived as a weapon or simulated weapon will not be allowed.
Colored hair and face paint ARE allowed (student must have his/her hair done before school – hair dye and face paint may NOT be done at school). Colored hair spray and face paint may NOT be brought on campus. These items will be confiscated and will not be returned if brought to school.
Costume masks or anything covering up a student’s face in any way are not allowed.
No gang related attire allowed.
Hats and sunglasses that are part of a costume are allowed; however, they must be removed while in the classroom and lunchroom.
Costumes should not be so large or obtrusive that it prevents the student from sitting comfortably in his/her chair. NO inflatable costumes are permitted.
Students are not allowed to tamper with anyone else’s costume (hands-off policy).
Do not bring candy to school. It will be confiscated if brought to school.
Students that have PE will still be expected to dress out.
Students not in compliance with any of the above may have to change or have items taken away.

Thank you for taking the time to review and discuss our expectations with your child. Please note that these rules apply to Canarelli MS and other schools may have different expectations. I appreciate your ongoing support of the work at Canarelli MS and your child’s education.

REPEAT: Tutoring Schedule!

REPEAT: Nuisance Items

Canarelli has seen a rising of nuisance items on campus, specifically squish toys and Kedamas.

Here is a reminder from our Student and Parent Handbook:

Items (portable game systems, Sharpie pens, permanent markers, electronic games, laser pens, squishies, Kedamas, cameras, yo-yo’s, water balloons, rubber bands, pets or stuffed animals, trading cards, perfume/body spray, etc.) are not to be brought to school. Students found in possession of such items will have the items confiscated and may be subject to disciplinary actions. The items must be claimed by the parents. At the conclusion of each semester, all unclaimed personal articles are given to a charitable organization. Laser pens represent a potential safety hazard for students and can have serious disciplinary consequences.

REPEAT: Activate is open for the 2026-2027 School Year

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year is now open. All student-athletes must register online prior to trying out for a sport. Parents will do the majority of the registration process, but students will need to read and e-sign documents. It is helpful to have the student available during this process.

REPEAT: Canarelli is a BIKE, SCOOTER, SKATEBOARD FREE ZONE!

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone on school grounds, we would like to remind all students that riding bicycles, scooters, or e-bikes on school property is strictly prohibited. This measure is in place to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of all individuals.

Please be aware that any student found riding these vehicles on school grounds may face appropriate consequences. We encourage students to walk their bicycles, scooters, or e-bikes to designated areas for storage and parking.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in keeping our school a safe space for all.

Student Handbook Information

BICYCLES: All bicycles must be parked and locked in the bicycle area in a manner that is consistent with the design of the bicycle rack. Bicycle riders are to walk their bikes on the designated sidewalk upon arrival and departure. Misuse of bicycles on school grounds can result in the loss of bicycle privileges. Students are not to ride bicycles anywhere on campus. Students must provide a personal lock for their bikes. The bicycle area is locked during the school day, but will not be locked overnight. Canarelli MS is not responsible for damaged or stolen bicycles or scooters.

Roller Blades/Skates, Hoverboards, or any Motorized Vehicle: For the safety of students, staff, parents, and visitors, these types of transportation are not allowed on campus. The parent will be required to pick up all skateboards, roller blades, hoverboards, and any motorized vehicles. After the third offense, the school will hold the item until the end of the school year.
