Don't Eat the Experiment!

Using simple ingredients and some tasty looking fruit, students in Ms. Chan's Biology class were able to extract and examine the DNA of strawberries as they continue their study of genetics and how traits are passed on to offspring.

Escaping with Shakespeare

Senior English students had to use lots of wit, teamwork, and knowledge of MacBeth in order to exit Ms. Prendergast's class last week as they participated in an Escape Room activity to review what they had learned about Shakespeare's Scottish play.

Notes on Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds are most common in winter due to dry air and nose-picking/rubbing and forceful nose blowing which can dry out nasal passages and irritate the lining of the nose, making blood vessels more prone to cracking and bleeding.

No Checking! "Don't peek to see if it stopped. Keep gentle pressure for the whole 10 minutes!" - Be Patient!

After the Bleeding Stops: Don't pick, rub, or blow your nose forcefully for a few hours so the lining can heal. Perform good hand hygiene and wash up face (gently around nose) as needed.

Prevention: Use a cool mist humidifier in your room where you sleep. You can use over the counter saline spray or a small amount of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) to keep the nasal passages moist to prevent dry, cracking, bleeding.

See your doctor if you have multiple nosebleeds, large clots, and/or lasting longer than 10 minutes with proper intervention.
