AMSB Principal's Weekly Newsletter
October 2, 2026
Note from the Principal
Dear Amity Middle School Families,
It was another great week at AMSB! As we turn the calendar to October, our students are fully settled into the routines of the school year. Classrooms are busy, students are engaged in their learning, and it has been wonderful to see the confidence and independence that have developed since those first few days of school. It is hard to believe how quickly September disappeared!
Speaking of fall, one of our favorite AMSB traditions is right around the corner! The AMSB Color Fun Run will be held on October 17th, and we hope to see a tremendous turnout from our students and families. The Color Fun Run is the primary fundraising event of the year for our PTSO, and the money raised directly supports many of the activities, celebrations, programs, and special opportunities our students enjoy throughout the school year. Simply put, the success of this event helps the PTSO continue to do so much for our kids.
Just as importantly, the Color Fun Run is about bringing our community together. It is a day filled with laughter, friendship, a little exercise, and—of course—quite a bit of color! We would love to have as many AMSB students and families as possible participate this year, so please consider registering and encourage friends and classmates to join you. Please register soon! If you or your business are able to support the event as a sponsor, we would also be incredibly grateful. Every registration and sponsorship helps make this fundraiser successful and ultimately supports experiences for our students throughout the year.
October always seems to bring a special energy to AMSB. The weather is changing, the school year is in full swing, and there is plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead. Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership, enthusiasm, and support of our students and school community.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Jason F. Tracy

Student Devices
Students are reminded to fully charge their laptops each night and establish a routine of making sure that they take them to school each day. We DO NOT provide loaner laptops, so students who forget their laptop will need to make it through the day without one (or beg to have their laptop delivered!). Thank you for working with your child to ensure they establish a routine around their laptop.
New Field Trip - Multiply Your Options Conference (MYO)
This is a one-day conference held at the University of Connecticut that encourages and supports young women in exploring careers in STEM, with a special focus on engineering. The conference celebrates Women in Engineering Day and offers students the chance to participate in hands-on STEM workshops and hear from women currently working in engineering fields.
This field trip will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026 from 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM – You will need to pick your student up at AMSB when they return at 4:00. If your child is an 8th grader who is interested in STEM and would like to attend, please have them notify Ms. Doheny in Room 37 as soon as possible since only 30 students can attend! More details will be shared with families of participating students. The deadline is October 16th, 2026.
If your child is absent from school, please email us at AttendanceAMSB@amityregion5.org. A parent email or note must be submitted for absences 1-9 in order to excuse the absence. A doctor’s note is required for absences 10 and greater.
