A Note from Ms. Keogh
As shared yesterday, I will be transitioning to serve as principal at West Cypress Hills Elementary beginning July 1. While I am very excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to be closer to home and at school with my children, leaving HBMS is bittersweet. This community has meant so much to me as both the principal and a teacher, and I am incredibly grateful for the relationships and memories built here over the years. Thank you again for your support, kindness, and partnership. I look forward to finishing the year strong with our students and staff!
Always a Buccaneer,
Laura Keogh, Principal

We finished with an outstanding 95.89% attendance rate! Thank you for making attendance a priority and for ensuring your children are at school each day.
Let’s keep the banner at HBMS for April by pushing our attendance even higher! Remember, official daily attendance is taken at 10am.
STAAR Snacks for Staff
From the HBMS PTO...
Support Our Teachers on STAAR Day!
Help us keep our amazing Buccaneer teachers energized during STAAR testing. We’re asking families to send in snacks and drinks to show our appreciation and give teachers a boost on this long day.
You (or your Buccaneer) can drop off individually wrapped snacks and drinks on the cart in the front lobby. The cart will be out Monday, 4/20, and Tuesday, 4/21.
Thank you for helping us take care of the teachers who take such great care of our kids!

CTE
This week, they created a flashlight inside of a candy tin. This is always one of their favorite projects and many former students still have their flashlights. To build, they drilled through the metal tins for the outside, and created a circuit with LEDs and resistors. Then students helped each other troubleshoot any issues with their circuits.
Soldering is a highlight every year, not only because of the hands-on skills that they can use in the future, but also because it gives students a better understanding of everyday items.
STAAR Testing - Next Week!
- STAAR testing continues next week with 8th grade Science & Social Studies.
- 4/14: 8th Grade Social Studies STAAR
- 4/16: 8th Grade Science STAAR
- Students should arrive between 8:20 am and 8:45 am to locate and arrive at their testing room. Wall rosters of room placements will be posted in the upstairs and downstairs grade-level houses.
- Students must bring their district-issued Chromebook (fully charged) and charger on testing day.
