Central Elementary School is looking for parent volunteers to assist with various "classroom" functions throughout the 2021-2022 school year. The Room Parents will also act as a liaison between teachers, other parent volunteers, and parents. Duties include coordinating efforts for the Central Elementary School annual fundraiser. This year's fundraiser, in lieu of our annual fashion show, will still include coordination of a class basket for online bidding. A link to sign up via SignUpGenius will be sent out in early/mid September. If you have any questions regarding being a room parent, please contact the Room Parent Chairperson, Alison Rynkar, at alisonrynkar@yahoo.com.

In addition, all of the students look forward to Spirit Day pretzels. Families pre-purchase pretzels at the beginning of the year to be handed out at the end of the day on each Spirit Day (typically the first Friday of the month, but may vary). An email regarding pretzel purchases as well as parent-volunteers to help with the distribution of the monthly pretzel orders will be coming out shortly!

The outside field will be set up like a track. Each student will each get a personalized ID card to track laps and mileage. Parents, teachers and Mrs. Simkus will scan your ID badge as you pass to track your laps. 8 laps is equal to 1 mile! For each mile students earn a special token. Students will receive special recognition at 10 miles and 26.2 mile! If you plan to participate, please bring your water bottle and wear sneakers!
Back to School Night
Thursday, September 23rd, 6:45 p.m., Central School Classrooms
Come interact with the administrators, your student’s teacher, and other classroom parents on this adults-only evening.
First Central School PTA Meeting of the School Year
Wednesday, September 29th, 7:30 p.m., via Zoom
Please plan to join us at our first PTA meeting of the year. Zoom Meeting ID (892 3216 7268). Meet this year’s officers and find out what the PTA is all about! All Room Parents as well as Committee Chairs are encouraged to attend the PTA meetings.
Central School Parent Socials
In typical years, the PTA helps organize Central School Parents-only socials for kindergarten and first grades to be hosted by two individual Central School houses for each grade. This is a great opportunity to get to know other parents of children in your grade, especially if you are new coming into the school. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the PTA cannot help organize these events but parents may do so privately if they choose.
After School Enrichment Program
First Session Begins October 4th
For six weeks each during the fall and spring, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, Central School PTA offers exciting After School Enrichment classes right after school to satisfy our students’ special interests. Classes offered vary by session and often include those in the arts, technology, science, sports, dance, and many more. The After School Enrichment Committee is in the planning stages now, and they are always looking for new and exciting class themes. We encourage the Central School community to volunteer their special skills or ideas to share with our students. The students will be masked and socially distanced.
Please email Kerry Perez kerryrperez@gmail.com if interested in volunteering to teach a course or being a part of our after school program. Expect a signup via email to be announced during the first couple of weeks of school!
Picture Day
Thursday, September 30th
Chair –Trisha Bickhart (trishabickhart@gmail.com)
Individual student pictures are on this day. Volunteer to help Central School Students look their best on picture day! We rely on parent-volunteers to help the kids line up, fix those stray hairs, and encourage smiles. Be on the lookout for a sign up through Sign Up Genius to volunteer to help that day!
Annual Central School Fashion Show
Thursday, November 19th
Chairs –Tricia MaGrann (tmagrann12@gmail.com), Courtney Sherly (CourtneySherly78@gmail.com), Ellen Brenner (ecarey78@yahoo.com), Ashley Staller (adamato@gmail.com), Dawn Blaston (dawn.brogan@hotmail.com)
In typical years, our Central School Fashion Show is a ladies’ night out held at Tavistock Country Club. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, last year we were unable to have our annual Fashion Show in person. Nevertheless, our fundraising committee was determined to raise funds for our school while supporting our local businesses. After a little brainstorming, Shop Local and Support our School was born. Similarly this year, in hopes that if we limit our activity outside of school it will keep our kids stay in the classroom, in lieu of the Fashion Show, we will be holding a virtual fundraiser starting the week of November 15th, with the live drawing on November 19th. In addition, to involve our students, leading up to the live drawing, the students will have spirit week! Mark your calendars!
Reflections Art Program
Fall through Early Winter
Chairs: Rose Andolina (rmveltri@yahoo.com) & Nana Shames (nana.shames@gmail.com)
Reflections Art Program is an Arts in Education program sponsored by the national PTA each year for students to show their talent in the fields of literature, visual arts, photography, dance, and other artistic fields. Each school holds a school-wide program, and - from each school - three submissions are selected in each age range and category to go to the county-wide competition, which takes place in early December. Some works from the county-level are chosen to go to the state-wide competition. More details regarding this year's theme to follow!
